any one know any brokers who will import a car from the states for me ( do all the paper work etc)

Why not do it urself? You also require to let U.S Customs that the car is being permanently exported (48 hrs notice) . It's straight forward, and the customs office is 24 hrs, its located by Britannia and Dixie (2720 britannia rd).

Are you shipping the car? or driving it over. If driving it over, they will need to see the car.

If shipping, find out which Bonded Warehouse it's going too. Get the cargo documents from there, and go to customs office.

FIll out Riv form, Pay GST, excise tax and riv fee. Your done.


Of course, if you dont want to do all that. Customs broker is the way to go.

theres some errors in that, but close enough.

i just imported two cars. so easy takes about 15 minutes. just fax the ownership to the us border. go get your car drive it back. us border looks at the real ownership and says see ya. about 4 minutes. canada border looks at ownership and bill of sale. charges ya tax and some other crap and you leave . about 15 minutes. thats it done. if its 15 years or newer you have to do other stuff but thats after you get it home . funny how people say its so hard. :hah:

it's not that it's difficult. it's that some people are unsure or lazy and do not want the 'stress' of transferring a car across the border.

Probably the most difficult aspect of such an importation is notifying Canada customs ahead of time if you're spending more than $10,000 CDN on a car. Usually they don't care too much if you're over by a bit. But if you go down there with $25,000, they'll usually get a little annoyed and start doing a lot more paperwork than you really want to bother with.

Also, some states do NOT have title-requirements for vehicles which can be a difficult situation. Some people don't know how to take care of such a problem.
