Interesting design. I'll consider the design "innovative" when I see a race team using rotors like that, until then I'm sticking with perfect circles.

That's the stupidest I've ever seen. Sure, lets cut the rotors to look like a table saw blade so we can save a few pounds! Who cares that we are cutting off useable braking surface, this looks cool!
Your pads will probably wear fast and wear quicker around the top edge. I think when you get on the brakes really hard you would probably be able to feel a shake as the pad goes in and out of contact with the larger (more surface area = more friction) part of the rotor. These should be a hit with the show crowd though. |
Why would you cut it this way? point? looks good, then it is ok. Works better then regular round one? I don't think so.

These RotorDiscs will look cool as F.U.K poking through the spokes of your rims, but their mad shape will also boost performance. While the sixteen CNC machined grooves on either side of the disc help to release any build up of gases or water between the pad and disc, the razor tooth design on the outer edge of helps to create turbulence which improves cooling when braking (thereby reducing the dreaded brake fade). There's also a slight reduction in un-sprung weight compared to an OE unit. RotorDiscs are available for just about every car on the market, but if they haven't got a fitment for your motor, give them a shout - they'll still sort you out. |
You guys are pretty slow when it comes to Technology aren't you.
this style of rotor has been used for a while now, motor bike and race car have been using them. the design helps disapate(spl?) heat much faster then a normal round edge rotor by the fact is has more surface area. I think it is some of the GP motorbikes and open wheel cars like Vandiemens F2000 that I have personally seen. |
Pretty gay IMO...
If the design was so good, then companies like Porsche, Ferrari, etc would use it, or something close to that... but they all still use the classic round disk. If anyone knows, it would be them. |
Karts use a design like this for increased cooling..

Wouldn't it be better just to make a thicker rotors with larger cooling vanes, rather then this stupid shaped rotor?

Ofcourse bigger is better but sometimes like on a car with a 15 or less size rim you can't fit something bigger, oh and yea you would think porsche would have figured out something like this first because yea there on the fore front of technology.

well.. the coolin effects of slotted and drilled is more then enough for us normal drivers.. if you think you're Schumacher and require this for your car due to heat soak rotors driving during rush hour.. you should kiss the shoulder so we can rubber neck and laugh :smilie_au
2 things to also consider.. 1. Which company do you think will want to true those rotors? 2. Even if it can stop better then stock or slotted / drilled rotors.. ultimately it's how much force your tire can deal with before breaking traction that will account for how quick you stop.. so even if it's better that just means it takes less foot pedal force to lock your tires or ABS kicks in.. so it's just a gimmick for all intensive purposes. But the owner of the company will probably sit back and :smilie_au at all the fools that will buy it thinkin there car will stop faster cause there decals are on the side of the car |
