well i sent the cam and timing set back for my 355 and exchanged them for "real" ones.

new cam specs: 214/224 duration (mild yet still a nice kick, similar to LT4 hotcam) and after the 1.6 rockers it will have .471/.496 valve lift. the new timing set is a true double roller. it also has adjustable cam timing at +/- 2 degrees.

cam was still just 70 bucks with lifters and then the timing set was something like 32 bucks. gotta love summit.

so you are building an engine...(sorry i am behind) is this just for your trans am or just a project?>

NoRiceInside 08-27-2006 01:21 AM

no its a side project for fun. im going to sell it when im done for money to repaint my TA.

ITSA6 08-27-2006 01:22 AM

gottcha....just trying not to make a fool of myself

NoRiceInside 08-27-2006 01:25 AM

good job. neither of those work with the LT1. the cam gear is missing the teeth to drive the water pump gear, which is also missing, and the cam is obviously a flat tappet :nana:

ITSA6 08-27-2006 01:27 AM

okay Mr. Brains how hard would it be to swap cams in my 3.4? Would i have to lift the engine or what?

NoRiceInside 08-27-2006 02:33 AM

no i did it in mine no problem. radiator needs to come out, ac condensor can stay but look foward to some jiggeling.

heads can stay, intake plenum and manifold need to come of, along with valve covers and water pump and front cover...which means all accessories: power steering and coil packs, alternator and bracket, then you can get at it.

if you decide to go through all the trouble, get the biggest cam you can find. the one i did wasnt much at all so it wasnt really worth all the trouble...well...it was...but i would have done it differently.

I thought my LT1 block looked small in the engine compartment, but that sixer looks mini!!

Honestly, anymore anything that involves taking the heads off I will probably just pull the motor and trans- It can be done in almost as much time as it takes to take all the stuff off to get to block-

nice caleb, and OMG that 3.4 is a little *****.lol
