looking at buying a 95 Talon(need help)

Hey guys well ive finally found my dream car that ive wanted for the longest time. A 2g talon, well Its not a tsi but im 17 and that would kill me on insurance anyways. Its 1995 Red talon with 227K ESI (I know its a lot of K but I think for $2000 its a pretty good deal I see most going for 3500 or 4000 with this many, and I can always get a swap done) there asking $2000 its from a dealer. Its a 5spd thank god refuse to buy an auto and I dont care if its not fast. It also has a 2 year powertrain warranty but does not come saftied and etested, They said if I wanted it saftied and etested I was looking at $3000 but im paying in cash so I think I could get it for a bit lower. Anwyays do you guys think its a bad deal for $2000 and are there a lot of problems with this car because I have heard there was. Anyways let me know please.

be prepared for headaches they are a nightmare electrical drivetrain blah blah your only hope is to convert to 1g drivetrain or you'll need a leash to take your crank for a walk

A 6-bolt jdm motor solved this problem for me. $2000 is not bad at all for a 2g.

for one i would take the car to be inspected at a another shop. There is a reason they are selling it for $2000 and if they won't safety and emmissions test it find out what the problems are with the car before hand. You could end up in a money pit because of it.

I agree with Crazy, Take it to a Independent/reputable dealer that You trust. Don't Let the Dealer fool you by taking it to a guy he knows who can do any repairs cheap.

Cheap repairs from a used dealer usually mean exactly that, the parts are cheap quality or the repairs aren't done at all.

also be prepared to locate a source of good cheap alternators, as the 2g's had a tendency to burn through them if you start encountering electrical issues.

The Talons/Eclipse are great cars, and there are a bunch still around on the road for a reason.

If you have a Mitsubishi Dealer around you, Take it to them for an opinion if you don't know any good shops, as they know the cars inside and out, and from all of the mitsu dealers that I have dealt with, they will usually give you an very good, detailed and unbiased opinion on if it is a good deal, what problems to expect in the near future or further down the road.

good luck on the Talon

Esi has chrysler engine.... I don't think Mitsubishi would put their hands in there. TSI's are mitsubishi engines... But yea, it's cheap for a reason, take it to a garage and have it inspected before you end up with a shitbox on wheels. GL :)

you're 17, you dont need the headaches of a crappy car. get something reliable and when you're ready and stable with money, go get urself your dream car and make sure it's a TSi AWD.
i personally love those cars, the 1g's and 2g's, but i still wouldnt get one thats not in good running condition even if it was 2000 bux.
keep looking dude and good luck.
