Looking for a Shop Class to Learn...
 

Hey guys,

Been a lurker for a bit, mostly because I don't have much intelligent to add, haha.

Here's my problem. I love cars, but I don't know a heck of a lot. Right not I have an '06 Charger and I got a few basic things done to it (CAI, Eibach Springs), however I find I'm having to pay shops to do even the most basic of work, and in addition one day I'd like to save up and build a car of my own, so my question is:

For someone who is a "beginner" in terms of practical car knowledge, where can I find a good shop class in Toronto. Not looking for anything too specific, because I am a beginner, but eventually (we're talking years and years here) would like to be able to work up to building my own ride. I love to get my hands dirty but I never learned how to do anything with a car, and I don't know where to start now!

Start with Suspension, Brakes and Alignment - it would cover the more frequent maintenance of your vehicle

Well most of the new cars are too high tech. I learned by working at places like Mr.Lube, paying attention to peoples problems and my own.

Internet has alot of things for you. I'd also start by buying basic tools. I know a few of my buddys have well over 3000$ worth of tools and they dont work at any shops or anything.

Chargers are pretty easy to work on. I dont touch suspension too much because I personally dont want some spring to end up in my face. Start by doing regular maintainance on your car.

Oil changes, tire rotations, etc.


Also you could buy a shop manual for your car and read away. It also depends what car you want as a project car. For me personally I love VW/Audi's to death and Ive been into them for about 3 years and I dont know everything but I read other peoples problems and their solutions and then I take it from there.

Find out what you want as a project car and take it from there. Join a few boards, rear, listen, and learn and you will find out everything you need.
