Ls5

Found it over on ls1tech:

Per Autoweek:

Three- Valve Power Boost
If you think car companies have been spending all their engineering talent developing
hydrogen-powered fuel cells or dilithium-crystal hybrids, think again. General Motors
unveiled a 6.3-liter V8 with three overhead valves per cylinder (one exhaust, two
intakes) that makes 470 hp at 6700 rpm and 385 lb-ft at 5600 rpm. Engineer Fred
Rozario says the extra valve increases horsepower by 13 to 18 percent over a two-
valve engine.
Gm is not saying where we will see the engine, but the small block is ready to go and
could be adapted for car and truck applications.

cool

Jason showed me that last night... So this is officially a LS5?

archemedes 09-06-2006 12:46 PM

volkswagon had that a while ago, and GM's Saab division had 5 valves per cylinder years ago, not really new technology, unless they make it reliable (the odd number valves tend to have high valvetrain failures compared to even numbered)

No, The rumor 6.2L is a LS3 best guess this is a LS3, A FI version would be maybe a LS5 who knows...my guess is a LS3

97z2801ss 09-06-2006 04:24 PM

we have Ls1, ls2,ls4, ls6 and ls7

how many more do we need?

SOMBirdV6 09-06-2006 05:15 PM

3,5,8,9,10

then thats it unless they wana go up to like LS26

97z2801ss 09-06-2006 05:22 PM

ls3200
is ware it will end

FORCE_FED_Z 09-06-2006 05:36 PM

But yet still a pushrod motor..they are easy to work on and cheaper typically for parts, but DOHC would be a little more efficient yet..

blue89vert 09-06-2006 05:40 PM

did gm make any big DOHC engines?

FORCE_FED_Z 09-06-2006 07:00 PM

There were some rumors of some, but none made it to production

69z-28 09-06-2006 07:07 PM

thats dope as hell.pushrod v8 is where its at. look at LS7. seriously, whompin on vipers and ferraris etc, with technology dating back to, hell like around 50 plus years ago.

archemedes 09-06-2006 07:20 PM

pushrod engines have better reliabilty, and can still make decent power

FORCE_FED_Z 09-06-2006 10:15 PM

I'm all for pushrod engines, don't get me wrong. They are a lot easier to work on, but GM needs something to get them out of the slump they are in. They are trying with the new warranty program, but thats only a drop in the bucket. I would HATE to see them taken over by some foreign pinheads who would change the entire line-up to 3 cyc 50hp compacts..

We 'true American's' love our big displacement engines...those no replacement for it!!
