Miller-Cycle Engines

Any one here know much about miller-cycle engines, like reliability, stuff like that. In particular the 1995 Mazda Millenia S supercharged miller-cycle engine. Arch, you're the car guru. :p All I've seen about the engine in general is this:

A Miller-cycle engine is very similar to an Otto-cycle engine. The Miller-cycle uses pistons, valves, a spark plug, etc., just like an Otto-cycle engine does. There are two big differences:

* A Miller-cycle engine depends on a supercharger.
* A Miller-cycle engine leaves the intake valve open during part of the compression stroke, so that the engine is compressing against the pressure of the supercharger rather than the pressure of the cylinder walls. The effect is increased efficiency, at a level of about 15 percent.

hmm never heard of them...

I read something not that long ago about them, seems relaiblity wasn't a factor, but efficiency was(the theory works well at only certain rpm's) (I can't remeber,but there was something on the speed channel last year I think too)all the comapnies have played with it, and dropped it for one reason or another

i was looking at a Mazda Millenia for sale and that's the engine it has. I waslooking at it dor a DD/for work, but i'm a little uncertain about that engine. I think he wants to much.

And someone tell me that doesn't look like a bullet hole.

it has some other flaws. 110317 miles. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

looks like a dealer would be $2500 private party around $1700.I'm not liking the relaibility ratings though.(it is a ford afterall)

i've seen both good and bad, from what I've read, and the reviews that I checked out the other day. Price of parts isn't cheap. I might still consider it if it wasn't for that godawful rust/hole in the back. that's just awful looking. The reserve for it is set at $3000. Ther is no way. I'll keep looking for something different.

Ryan swears that is a bullet hole in the back.

from body shop experience the japanese cars rust much faster than any of the others (I've been told it's the primers they don't use to get by cheap)

i'd really like to get a new Cobalt for my DD but they are a little bit out of my price range. I'm looking at probably 03 Cavalier/Sunfire, Neon from around the same years, maybe late 90s Grand Am/Prix. All depends on when I come across a good deal on a car I like. But at least the Dodge is running halfway decent right now.

archemedes 07-19-2005 12:18 PM

I like the '91-'94 cavalier/sunbird with the 3.1 the engine is hard to kill, I drove from MI to Atlanta and back with stops for gas only and was comfortable

97z2801ss 07-19-2005 12:32 PM

swell ?
