Next Project

Okay guys(and girls) i am totally talking in a hypathetical tone right now BUT

Sometime in the future when i have a steady job and am out of college i want another project car. Right now i am torn between two things. One would be a 2006 GTO and making it into a Monaro just because i think those are awesome or i want to do a CLONE of a 67-69 Yenko Camaro

Just trying to post up and get some conversation but if it were your choice out of these two options ONLY which one would you do and why?

thanks
vince

do the monaro just because everyone does the yenko clone

ITSA6 07-09-2007 08:34 AM

that's kinda what i was thinkin well i have alot of time to think on it and money wise it could even be cheaper

i like the classic though plus they'll hold their value

I would say the monaro just because there are already so many Yenko clones and classic camaros out there...I guess I kinda like to do cars that are unique and/or different. Just my .02 tho.

Even though there are a lot of Yenko's clones out there, you could still do a 1st gen build and make it your own. Nothing saying that you couldn't just get the old body and put all modern stuff in it. It would be a great project no matter what you did in my opinion.

Also- even though there are "a lot" of Yenko clones out there, they still are nice and would get more attention I would think.

I agree that the Yenko clone would get alot more attention...and it would be really cool to have a first gen with an LSX motor and other modern equipment :D either way you can't go wrong!

The Monaro will be cheaper. Finding a 1st gen for anything reasonable anymore is near impossible. And what's left are turds. Unless you bought a crate Camaro, which would be a great start.

Actually I'm voting crate Camaro. That way if you go modern drivetrain you're not messing up an original.

I'd do the first gen.

ITSA6 07-09-2007 07:18 PM

yeah glad i posted this, it's what i am saving up for now so i can get a good amount of money to do it by when i am out of college but i am still torn between the two i really dont' know

that's the other issue, you can build the monaro and still have money left for the gas and tires

Both cars have their advantages but I personally wouldn't do the monaro conversion. I don't see what's so special about them.
To me it's just like what these import kids do. Where they'll take a Civic and make it look like a stock Civic from Japan. I mean if someone from there came here would they be impressed? Of course not because they just bought the exact same car for thousands less.

Just mine .02 If you do get the GTO there are some really great ways to go but I just would go with the monaro conversion.
