Project: ChainDrive Wheelchair

Alright... I have an old Elec. wheelchair and i stripped it down. There is enough room under the seat for a small motor like a 50cc or bit bigger. I want to turn it into gas driven. Not too much work but enough. I figured if i just make a axle from wheel to wheel with a sprocket on it I could just Get a chain and join it from the axle sprocket to the motor sprocket. Plus all the little things like pedals which are easy to fabricate. Do you think im going to need a clutch device? And what type of motor do you think i should use? I was thinking a chainsaw or lawn mower engine. I dont want too much power just something to get around faster then electric. I know this project is possible. If it gets done ill most likely get a ractive exhaust pipe or something from a Honda and attach it. :laugh:Imagine a chainsaw motor with the ricer pipe on it. that would sound soo crazy :knock_tee , But i just need some input on this i think it would be a good project for me to work on.

Or anyone nkow what I should use for an axle???

Well, I have never build any karts in my life. But what I understand about axle is to use just straight solid rod with a simple sproket. Just like in regular go karts.

I'll sell you a 30mm axle - for $200.

Find out when there is gonna be a go cart racers swap meet. You,ll get lotsa ideas there.I,d say go cart clutch and rear axle..77.

i would suggest looking at a setup on a banshee or dirtbike. With open sprocket systems on them it should give you some good ideas.
