Rant On
Welp. Apparently I have 2.73 gears stock, and if I plan on swapping gears, I have to purchase a "thick" gear set. Well, me, not knowing this, caused me to buy the standard 3.73's. So now I have to drive 35 miles to get the set I bought, send the back to Speed Inc. wait 2 days for the old gears to get back to them, pay them another $30 for the thicker gears, wait another two days for the new gears to get here, take them 35 miles out to the shop, and wait another day for the gears to get installed. So I prolly won't have the car back untill mid next week, whereas I was SUPPOSED to get the car back last Saturday. Rant Off.

That's what I plan on doing first thing in the morning before I go to work. Hopefully I can get my other 3.73 gear set shipped back to them tomorrow instead of wednesday.

i like the wheels :)

Check and make sure you have 2:73's. 2:73's were popular with the early 4th gens but the late models I thought all had 3.23's.
|
yes. 2.73's came in Auto LT1's. 3.23's only in early 93 6-speed (me) and then all the rest were 3.43 but with LS1 i dont know. i jsut didnt think they put 2.73s in an LS1.

according to the performance shop, they said I had 2.73's which is why the ones I gave them wouldn't work. I'd trust them over me trying to figure it out. I don't mess with that stuff.

Just buy a 12 bolt and be done with it.
|
12 bolt is $2000 that I definately don't have, nor need at the time.
|
I think Bens LS1 had the same gears as you Adam.

when someone says 12 bolt they normally mean the gm 12 bolt, if you mean moser you say moser they are not the same (the gm ones use c clips to hold the axles, and the guy who came up with them should have been shot)
|
most people, when saying 12 bolt, refer to an aftermarket built rearend. same with 9". And I went ahead and got some Precision Gear thick 3.73's on the way, so car should HOPEFULLY be done end of this weekend/beginning of next week.

Just accept the fact that your an idiot when it comes to the ls1 and stick to your 1st and 2nd gen ****.

I'm buying the right stuff. Do you not see me NOT putting a gear spacer in there and paying the estra money for the right THICKER gears that are SUPPOSED to be in there? jesus ******* christ you moron.
