So, I changed my mind again

Well you might have seen my post about getting a full exhaust on my car. Well I did some calculations and I came to the conclusion that it wa way too much money for the current point in time.
So I decided to go with gears. I purchased some 3.42 gears for my car and a programmer so that I can change it myself and if I have to bring my car in for service.
I will let you guys know how it goes.

JMO...but a Mail order or Dyno tune would give you better results than a programmer.

We dyno tune to the price of 125 bucks an hour, although more expensive, it its worth it. a programmer is a good way to go if you just want to change small things. deffinatly don't do a mail order tune/chip, we have the biggest problem with those.

How much of a difference should I expect going from 2.73 to 3.42? I already looked that the gear chart at fbody.org so I know where my tach will be.

But how big of a change is there really gonna be?

69z-28 05-24-2006 06:10 PM

there will be a huge difference. people always talk about going from 3.42s to 3.73s so id imagine it would be the same thing. especially if your used to those 2.73s it should relaly wake it up.

dude, i just noticed in your sig.........a 2.5 60'??!?!?!!!!!

69z-28 05-24-2006 07:37 PM

haha yep. i had street tires that i need to use on the front of my car, so i didnt wanna tear them up too bad and also i was taking it easy on my clutch on the launches. when i get new rear tires and the new clutch in, i will see what i can pull with the craptastic non-drag radials again, lol. unless my friend lets me borrow his BFGs.haha

i never noticed that either...so what all is the difference ingears...so a 3.42 would take off faster than a 3.23...or is it the other way around...

Yes- the higher your gear ratio, the quicker out of the hole you will be, but your ultimate top end speed will be lower as well.
