Taking my car out today!

So I think I have the imfamous leaking transmission after storage :(. As I was getting all the dryer sheets/steel wool/baking soda out, I noticed a puddle under my car.. Havent looked closely at it, but Im sure its tranny fluid. My guess is my car got aids from adrics car since his leaked last year haha.. So now I am off to guy buy some fluid and seals.. I needed to do this anyway, so Im not that pissed.. Just sucks I have to go through more work than I expected before I can drive it!

So I was reading the other thread about someones tranny leak, and I think I got that there are 3 major seals it would most likely leak from. Well Im going to go buy those, and probably a new filter as well. Anyone have an idea as to how much time I can expect to do this? I know the pan seal shouldnt be bad, thats pretty straightforward, but how about the rear and the front pump seal?

Thanks for any help

damn that a pain!!
when i first started my car up when i had to drop it off to get my rims put on my car was ticking.
i think it had some moisture cause after a reluctant 2 mins of me debating to turn it off it went away.
musta been moisture or something sticking cause it was cold. maybe a lifter.
hasnt done it since. ive been driving my car back and forth for storage to the shop the last few weeks. just that one time.

anyways, sorry back to your tranny i wanted to ask. are our car prone to do that after storing them. cause you said someone elses did too.

the pan should be cake like you said. the rear shaft seal is cake. pull the driveshaft, pop the old one out and pound new one in, takes like 15 minutes total(while rubbing one off) the front pump seal sounds hard.lol.

front seal means trans has to come out of the car, do the other two and pray

Well I went out and got all the parts.. came back and started the car up, backed it out... It really didnt look as bad when I moved the car. The puddle was significantly smaller than what it looked like. I went for a 'spirited' drive and checked the tranny fluid after, its a little lower than what it should be at, but nothing that makes me want to worry. Im guessing that maybe on those super cold nights the seal may have shrunk a bit causing it to leak, then expanded once it got warm again, or it was just my small leak Ive always had. I didnt replace any seals, as I dont really have a need right now.

I think Im still going to change the pan seal though because its always leaked, maybe do the rear seal another time. Ill keep the parts as they were less than $20 anyway. Im just pissed off I had to buy another Haynes because I couldnt find my other one! haha. All in all, I spent about $50 on **** I didnt need. Oh well, in the process I washed the car and took a nice long curise yesterday.. I sure did miss my car. Taking it back home tonight :D

Good to hear and I agree with you, still go ahead and change the easy ones and hold off on the rear main seal until you know you need it or have some free time.

Well I jumped my car and pulled it out of the garage. Didn't drive it because there's still snow and I don't have it fully insured yet but I forgot how good it sounded and how good it looked. I would look at it in the garage but man does it look good outside, much more sleek than I remembered.
I let it idle for 15 mins or so with some revs thrown in but when I pulled it back in the garage and tried to start it again the battery was already dead. Hopefully driving it around will get the battery charged up because I don't feel like spending money on a battery right now.

i wanna get the malibu out or just start it up. i have a few puddles under it. but they are power steering, and i already know what i have to do to fix them so yeah

I have a couple battery chargers I used to charge mine up the night before. But yeah, it was so nice getting in the camaro.. its like the seats wrap around me compared to the escort.. it sits so much lower, and I have an armrest. Just watching the speedo was weird compared to the escort. Having a bitchin stereo again is very nice. It was funny since Im so used to the manual escort, I was feathering the **** out of the gas because the escort is so touchy, and not using a clutch.. all hard getting used to haha. But yeah, Im ready to take her for a spin again now.
