TB Bypass
 

I did this mod back in May and I must say I definitely felt a small increase acceleration. So I'd highly recommend this mod...unless...

If you live in an area where it is as cold as 40 and below, or the temperature gets that low during the winter, like me, this mod is a bad idea. I noticed recently my car has taken a while to warm up and reach operating temp. One day last week while driving for about an hour it never got above 170 so my performance sucked. So I reversed the mod and since then I actually saw an increase in performance because now the engine can warm up faster and give you maximum performance.

Of course when it gets warm again I'm going to bypass it again, but during the cold it's not a good idea.

I don't see how running at 170 could be a problem for the engine since the closed loop end at 155. :confused: With a 160 T-Stat and a manual fan switch you can run that cold all day in the spring.

maybe i'm just weird...and today i really missed the bypass, its a tad slower now :(

what happens is your ecm goes into cold start mode dumping more fuel making you run rich prematurly wearing out the cylinders and eventually killing power

yeah you can only do a low temp stat if you have some sort of tuner or programmer installed thats made to work with the stat. such as a 160 hypertech stat and hypertech power programmer.

it still doesn't fix that rich condition that is the only purpose of the change to fool the ecm into dumping more gas

oh ok. yeah i ditched my desire to purchase a jet control module and jet low temp stat because of that rich condition it creates.

it also doesn't help with power that much anyway

but the TB bypass does. ****** why'd i reverse it. i miss my long squeals :(

here I always thought the TB Bypass was for v8'ers.

i was going to do it for my car but my dad has been a machinic for over 30 years and says that its just not when the temp. gets below 40 its when there is the right barameteric pressure is just right the air blowing over the tb bore and butterfly will actually freeze. even if its like a warm day.

So if it freezes does the throttle cable freeze as well?

you get ice in the passages the throttle blades will be slightly stiff, but the big thing is the padssages can be plugged until the engine warms up, not a huge deal since you should wait for the engine to warm before tromping on it (it only takes about a minute to melt any ice that would build up)
