Took My Car into the shop!

Well I just got back from dropping my car off to the dealership, and Im going to get my lights adjusted and my rear end checked out and see how much new weather stripping is going to cost to replace the gaskets around the doors because they leak...oh and see if my E-Break needs to be fixed. So hopefully I will have my Camaro back in a few days all good to go. its an estimate of around 250$ right now, but we will see.

FORCE_FED_Z 11-24-2006 06:17 PM

Not to sound like a jerk, but $250 just to adjust headlights, look at a rear-end, give you another estimate for gaskets and fixing the ebrake?

Heck, I would have adjusted your headlights for a lot less than that..since it sounds like thats the only work they might actually do for the $250, everything else is clicking box's on a computer.. If your e-brake needs work they will charge you more for it, same with the rear-end. Thats how stealerships work, give you an estimate to get you in the door then jack the price once they have your car.

Holy **** man. We adjust headlights for free, unless they are something out of the ordinary. As per the E-brake, thats typically just adjustment on the rear brakes, which is all of taking off your rear wheels and drums(its not rear drum brake, I know) and tightening it. I dunno about weather stripping, but even at that estimate, your getting robbed. And im sure they are going to find 10,000 other things that need to be 'fixed' while its there. I hate dealerships.

You coulda dont ur headlights urself........its like 1 simple thing to do.

yea yea, anyways hella bad news, the noise from the rear end is the bearings in the differentials and its gonna cost $1400 to fix it...i have to pay up $500 out of my pocket...im so pissed...

98CamaroZ28 11-24-2006 08:55 PM

how much does the bearings cost anyways..? they are 3.42's

Phate 11-24-2006 09:08 PM

I replaced my differential, rear seals, and bearings for $250 (labor not included). Im not sure where that other 1150 is coming from lol.

98CamaroZ28 11-24-2006 09:22 PM

did u do it yourself?
or did some one else do it?

98CamaroZ28 11-24-2006 09:26 PM

I think they are replacing the whole rear axle...

ITSA6 11-24-2006 10:42 PM

ouch that's what going to the dearler will kill you for dang

98CamaroZ28 11-24-2006 10:48 PM

yea...

ITSA6 11-24-2006 10:49 PM

it sucks i know luckily i am in good with one of the shops here in town so if it's something i can't do he like cuts labor by two thirds it's great

98CamaroZ28 11-24-2006 10:54 PM

I think the price is way overpriced...but what can you do? I hate when they put more labor hours on there then they actually did...when i got my windshield replaced they put 5 hours of labor on there and it only took them an hour and a half...but it should be out of the shop tomarrow.

Phate 11-24-2006 11:01 PM

Well. Im bound by whats called a "Labor guide" even if a job takes me 1 hr to do, if the book says it calls for 3 hrs, I have to charge 3rd of labor. But, i've spent 5 hrs on a job the book called for 2 hrs, so, it can help you or hurt you as per labor cost.

And yes, that cost was me installing it myself, parts only, at dealer cost. Even with a whole new rear axle I dont think it should be 1200 bucks or w/e.
