Tranny fluid change at 206K?
My buddie at work here says a mechanic told him if he hasnt changed his Tranny fluid once you reach 150,000 miles (not kms) not to change the fluid anymore or else you will start having tranny problems.
This sounds like a load of crap some1 tell me this isnt true. thanks :ugh2: BTW he owns a 98' Dodge Caravan with 206,000kms on it |
206 000kms and original trans fluid. Wow, that is bad.
Changing it of course will be better, but it could create leaks. |

If it was changed at regular intervals it will be fine. You are supposed to.
|

I asked if he should change it again or leave it...i didnt mean change it now i meant should be change the oil ever again? |
man..less i have people touch my cars less issues i have..
i went 120K before i filled up the tran fluid on my one car cause it was slipping.... still does when its cold :( |
^lol that could be a total diff issue though.
The caravans tranny runs fine with no leaks at all surprisingly... |

The owners manual on those recommends every 50,000 kms. If you do them this often, they will generally go forever. A mechanic friend of mine has a 89 Caravan with just over 400,000 kms on it, original tranny, but it's been serviced every 50,000 since it was new.
