V8's and Yokohama AVS ES 100s

If you have a V8, and want really good tires, do not get the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. Some people will tell you that this is a really good tire, and it is. But not for the LT1 and LS1. Once you get under 6/32 inch tread, the tires lose 80% of their traction .

my ecsta supras are pretty nice...lost traction today...but it was uphill on a onramp in the rain...that's kinda expected

****, you couldn't have posted this a couple of months ago? Lol, thats the exact tire I have right now.

robluvs2xlr8 11-17-2004 01:10 AM

lol, sorry :(

how many miles have you put on your tires?

with spirited driving, mine lasted 20k miles :)

Drake 11-17-2004 01:30 AM

Heh, spirited driving, I like that.

Using the afore-mentioned driving style, I currently have maybe about 3-4K on the tires.....

robluvs2xlr8 11-17-2004 01:40 AM

I'd say my tires were good to me up to 10-15k miles, then whenever i started flooring it, with no previous mods done, the tires would peel badly. They peeled when I floored it, but it progressively got worse.

Right now i have 0/32 tread lol, so I put in an order for Nitto 555R's, i'll tell you how those go

archemedes 11-17-2004 01:44 PM

do you do burnouts? 10k is way under the millage warranty

NoRiceInside 11-17-2004 05:39 PM

i just got back from a tire place. the guy was looking at the tires on the drivers side and said these are in great shape...then he went to the passenger side, which is the side that spins, and was like whoa maybe they arent in good shape...lol :D

robluvs2xlr8 11-17-2004 10:42 PM

Not really, only burnout that happends is when I floor it.

archemedes 11-18-2004 06:19 PM

has the pressure been maintained? have they been properly rotated?all of those can ruin otherwise great tires

97z2801ss 11-18-2004 07:08 PM

the ones on my dads car goodyears originals lasted 22K dont really expect tires to last much longer on these cars

archemedes 11-18-2004 08:08 PM

goodyears on a camaro tend to last about that they are a junk tire (I did about 30 warranty replacements at the dealership since all the goodyears were out of round they have to be over inflated to last)

robluvs2xlr8 11-18-2004 10:37 PM

I kept tire pressure at 30psi, what it says it should be on the door.

archemedes 11-19-2004 12:14 AM

too low, the door is wrong (there is a secret tsb with goodyear tires to inflate to 40 psi minimum) yokahomas run 32 to 35 cold you'll get better millage and better tread life

Drake 11-19-2004 12:38 AM

Yea, I keep mine @ about 35-37 psi....
