A visit to the track.....
....and I get a new best time, still not all that impressive, but its not bad. We (SAFB) had a F-Body shootout at the local track and there was roughly 50 or so F-Bodies there. Out of 30 who entered the bracket race, I got 4th place (or tied for 4th....something like that), not bad, but I was sorely pissed off because I would have won that last race had I not red-lighted.
13.2065 @ 104.63 MPH <---low 'cause I almost broke out & had to let off .5035 reaction time 2.0405 60ft 13.2521 @ 106.38 MPH .6428 reaction time 2.0312 60ft The rest of my times are in the low 13.3s. I really really want some lightweight wheels and some drag radials, I think it would help quite a bit. |
Those times aren't bad at all but without much work you can easily get deep into the 12's.
I've seen this car go 12.8.....it just wasn't my car at the time, heh.
Something is bogging me down once I get close to the end of the track, like it take the engine a while to decide it wants to keep going....kind of a hesitation. I originally thought it was my rev limiter, so I upped that, but it still happened. Somone said I should change the shift points.....think that would help? |
not bad..is anything different on the car(other than driver ;) ) when it ran the 12.8?
do you have an auto? get a shift kit
if you have an auto, yet, it'll hesitate, mine does it....all...the ****....time...i hate it. A shift kit MIGHT help you out, but it'll just kill your tranny sooner in the long run, which is why I haven't put one in. You've got the imfamous 3-4th shift hesitation on auto F-bodies, yes, it sucks, but what can you do?! You can go buy a 6 spd and swap it, or buy a turbo 350
idk from experience of coarse but ive heard all over that a shift kit will extend the life of trans' becuase when trans' slip and shift weakly they wear out faster than a hard firm shift. also i dont think you would wanta turbo 350, you would have absoluetly no top end with 3.73's

So, the 3-4th gear hesitation is a common plauge? One of my buddies told me to change my shift points using my HPP3, he has an auto T/A, so maybe I'll get him to help me with it.....I think I'll stick with my automatic though, its nice just to be able to stomp and go (and its more consistent than manuals :D). |

IF u get a shift kit get a tranny cooler while ure at it, Help make the tranny last longer
Mkae sure the engine isn't running out of fire or fuel in the upper RPM band.
a good shift kit (one that doesn't say b&m) will not hurt the trans, almost sounds like the fuel pump not keeping up (which is common too the wiring is way too small)
and definatly not bad runs

You could look into a turbo 350 or 400 tranny, although they only have 3 gears, which is why I don't want them, because I love being able to run on the freeway. You might try the shift points, but I dont know if that would change anything.
