What is the best starter car
hey everyone, i wanna know what kind of a car is good starter car thats around $8 000 and has a v6 . i was thinking a MKIII supra.
|
MKIII Supra at age 16?
GO FOR IT!! |
go grab yourself a Civic, EK or EG, and modify it!!... you'll be able to corner MAD!!
or.. you can also grab yourself a Prelude... leave it stock and have fun... V6's dont really mean POWERFUL |
Supras have an inline 6. Almost any car with a V6 is going to kill you on insurance. Might be better off with a 180z, or 240z, and do a sr20det swap. If you keep your eyes open, you'll probably find that combo for around what you are budgeting.
|
that is very TRUE!!... and supra = 2 door car = sport car = high insurance
civics have cheap insurance, accords have cheap insurance... its better off buying yourslef a semi sport car.. change the suspension.. for about 1k$... you'll have a gas saving, low insurance, comfortable car |
Dont do sr20det. Its slow, and theres no aftermarket support.
Stick to that supra idea. Civics are a good car to learn on, also consider a Mustang. sr20dets are just gay. The engines break down constantly, theres no power, just a waste of money. B16 is the way to go! |

Something nobody has?
|
a 300zx
buy a old school 300zx turbo 5spd, these cars dont usually have a bunch of retards driving them (civic) so they are somewhat cheap on insurance due to the kind of person driving them. plus they can be made fast for cheep with and intake/ex/boost controller. and you rarely see em on the road. unless u live next to me.

There is no way he would be paying so little. He is only 17 years old, which means that he's probably only been driving on his own for a year at the very most, and he's driving a Supra for sakes. When I was 18 and insured my Festiva under my own name, it was something like $290 a month. My friend has a Mk3 Supra Turbo and he pays at least $350 a month and he's been driving for a lot longer then the 17 year old guy. |
BTW, a nice cheap and comfortable car, that handles well and has a V6 is the Mazda MX3. It's BARELY got a V6 though, the thing is only a 1.8L. Go take one for a drive and see if you like it. I don't think those cars got the credit they deserved.
|
well im not getting a car now, because i don't have the cash for it maybe in 2 years i will. i just wanna see what cars you guys think is good for $8 000

No tickets, no accidents. Being in school and getting good grades I get a discount from my company and its $250ish/month now, or it was, its now off the road, again. |
A supra is definetly nice, but if you want reliability, and fuel economy go for a Honda. i got a 97' GSR integra for $6300 about 6 months ago, and i think its perfect for someone who is just starting, plus insurance isnt the worst. and with not a lot of money invested you can get decent results out of it
|
^ Whoa you got a hell of a deal on that Integra. Those things usually sell for a lot more then that!
|
yea maybe an older teg would be something to consider. Also if its your 1st car something really fast and sporty might not be a good idea.
but if your not planning on buying a car for 2 years youl be 19 then..insurance might be a tad cheaper depending on where u live. |
im starting to think about a 1991-1995 Acura Legend Coupe, they look pretty good. Do u guys think this would be a good choice.
|
does anyone know if a 1JZ GTE or a 2JZ GTE can fit in the Acura legend without having to cut part of the engine bay????
|
i don't really suggest going with anything with a turbo if its your first car, i mean for 8 grand you could probably get a decent turbo car, but its not gonna take long before starts to break and unless you know your way in the garage its gonna cost you a lot. anything like DSM, 13B rx7s, MKIII, etc. is not gonna be new for 8 g's so you should start thinking about something different for your first car. i'm not saying this applies to everyone, but if you're thinking about putting a 2JZ GTE into a Legend, you should consider the likes of an MX6, MX3, Integras, civics, or anything non-turbo.

The swap alone will cost you at least $8000 and no it won't work without extensive chassis modification and custom everything. |
for $8000 you have a bunch of nice cars you could go with . A Corolla, an acura integra , a 1.6 el , honda civic or accord or even a late 90's grand prix gtp. If you are looking for fast, can swing the insurance and dont mind old school try a T-type , stang, early 90's supra, rx7 or firebird/camaro. Your best bet would be look at an Auto trader or the TSR classifieds section. There are many more types of cars there that would be in that price range and not as common as the ones mentioned above as well.

Mines $139 a month on a 90 beretta gtz, liability only. Which is not too bad but i would prefer if it was lower. |
Hell just get a AWD talon.
There cheap and in 2 years will be even cheaper. U will learn how to repair your car week by week. |
yea but by the time he learns, he would have wasted a load of money on it. not that i dont like talons, those things are so easy to make really quick.

you know what the best starter car is?....a van...as a new driver you will be the safest in a van, or in any given SUV, provided that you can afford one ...unless of course you get hit by a truck, then aither way ur Fuc&ed...lol :drive:
Statistic: most dangerous SUV car is a GM Jimmy, they tend to flip more often then any other SUV....partly due to its cubic shape... Put some fuc*in twin turbos in there and your good to go....hope this helps...lol |
