What Car Should I Choose

Hey guys I have absolutely no idea what to do?

I have the choice between -

1992 Mazda MX-3 Precidia GS
1.8 L V6
265K on engine
All Stock
Saftied, needs etest

1989 Chevrolet Cavalier RS
2.8 L V6
198K on car
50K on newer engine
NEEDS BODY WORK
Safety And Etested

Anyways im just wondering what car would be better im a 17 year old kid not wanting to spend all my money on insurance, but I want a nice car that does have a bit of power to it. I also do not know a ton about cars but I want to try to do as much work as I possibly can.

Any help at all would be appreciated thanks

I can't speak for the mazda nor am i going to bash it.Personally I would go for the cavalier the engine in it is bulletproof. My best friend had a older z24 with the same 2.8 and he got 600,000kms out of that motor and beat the out of it everyday. He ended up getting t-boned and the car was written off. They are very reliable and the trannys also take a beating be it the th125 auto or the 5spd getrag both are good.Check under the rear wheels to see what shape the wheel wells are in.Other then the visual rust they arent too sabby.Best of all the z24 body swap is a bolt on and cheap to buy in yards. For furture mods you can drop a genI 3.1 out of any GM front wheel drive car and it will bolt/plug in.The only mods you need for this swap is a ECM from the 3.1 car and somtimes the 3.1 has a electronic EGR valve were as the 2.8 has a vaccum one. This is solved by bolting the 2.8 EGR on the 3.1.No biggy.

Yup get the Cavalier. Just watch the rear wheel wells. One of my buddies had one until the left rear wheel well rusted out of the trunk. The main problem... The shock attaches to it. B BYE.. The 2.8 and the 3.1 were indestructable. Good engines for a small turbo too. :)

Get Mazda, it is considered girly car and will be slower (a bit ) then a cavaler, BUT you can drop a 2.2L turbo engine from MX6 or 626 (small mods (it's already turbo) and you are set go with healthy 200 wheel horse power no prob. And in my opinion I stands out a bit more then Z24, and I like it more. Mazda forever.

price out your insurance for both and see what they'll cost you, that should be a factor in your decision

The cav for sure.

Insurance will be cheaper, that car is peppy and reliable and is cheap to fix.
I had a 91 rs with the 3.1 in it 5 speed and loved it plus it was cheaper than any import to fix.
