What Oil do you use?

This very well may be a repost from some time ago, but I've haven't seen it since I've been here November '05.

I'm curious what kind of oil you all use in your cars.

First of all ~ What Brand do you use?
Second ~ What Formulation is it, Standard or Synthetic?
Third ~ Which Weight do you run?

I'll go first......After I bought my car, the first thing I did was had the oil and filter remove from my engine. I replaced it with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10W-30. After using Synthetic Oil, I'll never go back to standard grade myself.

i really dont remember what weight i put in last, but im pretty sure i went with 10-30 Valvoline. for the trans i think i got Mobil 1 ATF or something, it was the only thing atuozone had, hehe. rear end i use Valvoline 90-140. and use a Fram oil filter.

I use quaker state standard 5w30. I would use synthetic but it's not even worth it on my engine. When I get a 350 than i will use royal purple!

I use fully synthetic Mobil One European blend.

Royal Purple 10w40. This stuff is a little pricey but the results are huge. I got hp gains and a lower temp. It is well worth it. I also go further with less oil changes. It coats the cylinder walls really well. I wasn't a beliver till I tried it but I am now. Also do a full synthetic swap on your tranny if it is an automatic. You will definately see a huge difference at the track and on the road. talk to an Amsoil rep about that though.

NoRiceInside 04-06-2006 01:31 PM

honestly i dont think chaning oil makes any noticeable difference at all. even royal purple, i think that guy was imagining things...

but i use mobile 1 10w-30 synthetic motor oil and mobil 1 high performance filter, mobil 1 synthetic atf, and mobil 1 synthetic gear oil with gm limited slip additive. only for bragging :)

archemedes 04-06-2006 01:34 PM

mobile 1 synthetic 10w30 you can see a difference between a good synthetic (aka full synthetic which is mobile 1 and royal purple are really 100% synthetic) and dyno based oils

Bernotas05 04-06-2006 01:35 PM

Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic motor oil, and a K&N Performance Gold filters.

I agree, nothing that you can really feel, and while the dyno results have proved that running synthetic oil can free up between 8 to 12 hp, it's one of those deals like an Airfiol, or doing the TB Bypass......none of them alone give you noticable gains.....but having all of them done does add up. :)

I believe running any full synthetic oil is going to lubricate your internals better than standard grade oils, but regardless of what they say about running longer between oil changes,.....the oil filter still needs to be changed at least every 3000 miles. The media inside the oil filter doesn't last as long as the oil can, so for anyone who runs the extended life, you still need to change the filter after 3000 miles.

I personally wouldn't run any oil of any kind more than 3000 miles in my car, regardless of what any studies show, and while it cost me almost 3 times as much to run full synthetic every 3k, it's worth it to me......especially the way I drive. :D And I figure if Mobil 1 is good enough that GM runs it in the new LS7 Vette motors, it's got my approval.

i just use the valvoline high milage 10w-30 semi-synthetic

camaro_chic17 04-06-2006 07:35 PM
