Whats the point of burning out?

This topic is abit annoying to me. I know burning out looks cool and all but what exactly is the point of this? To show torq...????
Seems to me that you would just be eating away your tire for a quick 2 second glimpse by on-lookers....

MeenZ28 10-08-2005 05:04 PM

Yes exsactly. It's to show off. Whats so wrong with that? If someone wants to waste hundreds of dollars worth of tire then so be it!

http://myspace-873.vo.llnwd.net/0011...18882873_l.jpg

SOMBirdV6 10-08-2005 05:21 PM

yes it is fun to do.

paarman97maro 10-08-2005 06:12 PM

since we got the list goin - For people to show off how much money they can waste :D

Bernotas05 10-08-2005 06:14 PM

Yea its to show off i do it sometimes not as much as latley tires are too **** expensive.. I got pulled over last night because i gave it a lil juice around a turn on to main street and slid the *** end out he let me go but he made me take my taillight blackouts off that ****, ohh well they got put right back on within 10 minutes

Mike Jones 10-08-2005 07:23 PM

To show off but originally and foremost it's for heating up your tires and cleaning them off at the track.

TorqueDog 10-08-2005 08:05 PM

Chad is correct. The purpose of performing a burnout is the get your tires to their optimum temperature for traction. It also cleans them off (stones and debris).

Of course, there are those who do burnouts just for kicks. [shrug]

camaro94 10-08-2005 10:53 PM

Not bad, but I normally look in front of me when I'm in the car. :nana:

that has nothing to do with it. Even if I had a V8 I wouldn't do it. It's wasteful on tires, and I barely have enough money for those as it is. And its not like my car can't. Especially with no interior other than the dash, one seat, and a seatbelt.

Really, I couldn't get my 3.4 to do a burnout. It'd just launch and then bog down.

archemedes 10-09-2005 01:29 AM

my gp can do a burnout, but it eats transmissions(part of the trans being rated for about 5 hp less than the engine is putting out stock, and then adding parts). The bravada wouldn't do it even if it was a v8 (awd is great), and radial tires don't need heat (they actually don't like heat, just a slight chirp to clean tehm and go)

Mikerock 10-09-2005 01:42 AM

its the one tire of fire!!!!!!!

DDxHellRaiser 10-09-2005 02:07 AM

lol, fvcker.. yes yes i have a 3.4 and it blows, soon to upgrade to another camaro. Due time my friend...due time. I just got a ticket today for my windowtint, it was raining and the windows were half way up and cop pulled me over...i didnt know why cause my system wasnt booming at the time and i deffenitly wasnt speeding, dude told me cause my tint, i have 5% all around and 35% in front, his meter said that my tint read 3%..whatever..its cool, im getting the ticket tooken care of. Good thing my dad is friends with the judge, lol..mUAhhahAHHA he didnt say anything about my tailshades...owell, i could tell the cop was a rookie trying to earn some brownie points by just giving me a ticket instead of the warning.

Oh and my camaro can do some badass burnouts. Since this camaro is my only vehicle right now i tend to just get from point A to point B, thats it.

haha well we were in a park and i didnt want to do it to long, so if my idiot friend would learn how to take a pic quicker i wouldnt have looked. Oh and gimme a month or so and ill have the 4.10s in with LSD and a new burnout hehe. ;)

Also, I did that like 4 days after I got there car (hint its on the hubs ha)

69z-28 10-09-2005 10:30 AM

my friends 3.4 auto could do a pretty good brake torque. he had to sit for a while but it did it.lol.

paarman97maro 10-09-2005 02:43 PM

yeah, 3.4s, and 3.8s are still capable of doing burnouts...

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8109/dscn62418tw.gif

..Its just the rear end that needs work to make them look cool :lolsign:

TorqueDog 10-09-2005 03:00 PM

Same here, the ones I've shown everyone here on tape are the only one's I've ever done. The last one's Mark and I did was just so we could have a video to show off and I'm happy with it so I won't be doing any other's unless I have new tires on order.

Get a Zexel-Torsen and 3.42s, man, you'll love it. Don't bother shelling out the extra cash for an Auburn unless you intend on putting out some ungodly amount of power.

I know that it was, but that's still annoying :p . Besides, it won't be a joke after the turbo and all that is done. ;)

Ah yes, someone else is joining me in boost-land. If you happen to look on FFF's website, there is a video of Tiago's 3.4L after being completely tuned. Sounds like a crazy little bastard at WOT. I love it.

(the boyfried) ^ lol yeah i do one wheel-wonders too, i want to swap out the rear end for a z-28 for the LSD and the disc brakes in the rear. And while i'm at it, swap the garbage 2-piece drive shaft out for an LS1 drive shaft.
Read some where on here that it would work. (the LS1 D/S)

Yeah the aluminum driveshaft will fit right in, I did the swap when I had my 3.4. You'd be suprised how much weight difference there is.

I've been planning on the turbo for years now, its just I don't have the cash yet. Interior and exterior should mostly be done by the end of this spring, then after that, when we get into our other house, she's gonna start getting the performance overhaul.

97z2801ss 10-11-2005 10:48 AM

Hmm.. wow I rarely do em wont have money for new tires for awhile
