hey camaro drivers

how are you guys and gals??? i know i am new to this project camaro! and i enjoyed this and so i wanted to ask about customize on my Z-28 i own a 84 and i recently took the fins off and installed new 90-92 wing on it and wanted to custom vertical door and i have searched so many sites and couldnt find a thing!!!! since i know these 3rd gen camaro have big door and i'm afraid to open the door in the parking lot and bang on other cars and hard time getting out and getting in so i thought why not vertical door ???? and other thing i want to beef up my suspension with strut towers and put polyurthan bushings and mounts and rolls on either 18 or 20 inches rims w/ low profile and custom made ground effect without having to lower the car... and wider fender (as widebody) and thought about making one piece fiberglass top instead two glass tops and wanted to paint it all black with limo tint window and blackout tail light and h eadlights what you guys think?????? any suggestion would be help ful oh last thing i wanted to put two big turbos in it hehehe

paarman97maro 09-22-2005 12:49 PM

do you have an extra $10,000+

Bernotas05 09-22-2005 02:18 PM

Why dont you just park in the back of the parking lot like everyone else? you dont have much worry about opening your doors into people

archemedes 09-22-2005 02:49 PM

doing the lambo doors on a third gen is completely custom (I think) and expensive, not to mention a bit dangerous (that door is heavy, it falls while your under it your toast) strut tower brace is nice if you do auto cross, but not needed really, especially if you go with 20's those will negate any benifit of any suspension upgrade. you have t tops and want a targa top?If so don't do it, the roof is structural (there's a reason gm never built a 3rd gen convertable they were all aftermarket and had horrible flex)

blackoutZ-28 09-22-2005 04:01 PM

money isnt everything , it how u earn it. about the vertical doors could it possible to use hyd. pump? to control the opening and closing? and Archemede so u suggestion me to go with 18" rims?

archemedes 09-22-2005 04:17 PM

at the largest (18's still hurt performance) a hydralic pump is possiblem but really overkill, some linear actuators should be able to do it (it's still a pain to get in from what I have seen)

1BADVETTE 09-22-2005 04:40 PM

Well, I'll go ahead and be mean and say that your an idiot for putting vertical doors on your car and use the excuse that your afraid of smashing the door into someones car. Everyone who owns one of these cars, if they really care about it, park at the back of parking lots.

archemedes 09-22-2005 04:51 PM

and then hope that the idots cutting through don't ram into teh car (I have seen a half dozen cars clipped at the back of the parking lot)

yeah, the back of the parking lot can be just as bad as the front, but for different reasons.

PHDcamaro 09-23-2005 06:29 PM

FORCE_FED_Z 09-24-2005 12:52 AM

OK- to all those who have posted so far this is general to all-

I believe this site is called 'Project Camaro', yes as a matter of fact I think I read that somewhere. Someone new comes here and says 'Hey, love the site and such, here's my ideas..' and about all we can come up with so far is how you all think that 20's on a camaro are ugly and that vertical doors are a waste.

I say- Go for it. You want to custom make your own 'lambo style' doors go for it. You want to convert your t-tops to targa, again nice customizing. 20's aren't my cup of tea so much, but again it takes some customizing to get them to fit. The widebody could be interesting as well.

I'm sorry to come across as talking down but anymore it seems like unless someone is part of the 'group' then just about any ideas they have are dumb are and a waste of money.

Since no one else has said it yet-

Welcome to
:yeahpc:

Even though it didn't seem like a nice welcome some good info can be found on this site. In the future keep your ideas to yourself unless they involve doing what everyone else has done if you don't want to get them shot down...

That pretty much sums up all fbody boards. If you don't go mainstream, you're wasting your money and your car will be hideous.

Or just do like I do: ignore everything they say and do whatever the hell you want. ;)

PHDcamaro 09-24-2005 10:45 AM

in my mind there are things you JUST DONT DO to an fbody...... im all for customizing and trying to do something different but theres a line between different and just plain stupid..... i didnt mean to hurt the guys feelings, but i just gave out my opinion...... and as far as staying "mainstrean... mainstream my ***.... in the camaro world there is no mainstream.... people are always being creative.... just look in some magazines, theres always cool new crap being made... so somebody gotta be thinkin outside the box..............

MeenZ28 09-24-2005 11:23 AM

I have to agree with Joe. Nice welcome guys. Look the guy has some big plans ahead of him and even though i may not agree with some (or most for that matter :p ) its his car and he should do what he wants. Lambo doors on a 3rd gen, never seen it before, would be cool if someone pulled it off. 20" aren't my cup of tea but can look good if done right. I'm all for the targa if it can be done without ruining that car. I say good luck my friend. Welcome to the family.

BTW - I'm getting real sick of hearing the 20" lowers performance line. Look, some people just dont care that much about performance alright? You can't run 120 miles an hour 24/7.

he says he's changing the engine that usually tells me performance is on his mind.Someone asks what we think about planned mods I'm going to tell my opinion. If we don't tell tehm what we think later when we make fun of their car after finding it on car domain they may get upset.Being different isn't always good if it's bad taste. The targa top I said it ruins the structural integrity of the car, there is no way to fix it except a roll cage (I didn't say that part, but you get my point) 20's are for drug dealers (they are the only ones I see with them around here at least wanna be drug dealers)lambo doors are not a looks thing (I don't care what anyone says if you have to have your doors open to show it, it's not a looks thing unless you plan to park your car everywhere with the doors open, and never drive)

MeenZ28 09-24-2005 01:25 PM

Look, i agree wth most all you just said Steve, but my main point was that this was kind of a sh itty welcome for a new member. Let me re-itterate...

Targga tops - looks awsome IF you dont ruin the car by doing it.

20" Wheels - they can look good IF done right. Case in point - http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...109_2_full.jpg

Lambo doors - i dont like. But if can be done to a 3rd gen and he likes it then go for it. A lot of what we do to our cars for looks you dont see a lot. Ask anyone who has chromed an engine compartment or spent a few grand on a stereo in the trunk. Tell me these people drive around with the trunk and hoods open all the time, right?

Performance aspect. Steve, you shoudl know as well as any of us that even the top o' the line 350s in the 3rd ges were underpowered anyway. An engine sawp may just be an attempt to make the car more than stock. Speshally if he wants to run 20s. Give the kid a break Steve. You're gettng as bad as those fukers on CZ28.com.

I have to disagree with you here arch- Lambo doors ARE a looks thing. Here is the perfect example. What about those people, myself included that try to make their engine look good? I know I don't drive around with my hood off, nor do I open my hood everywhere I go. I save it for those times when I either race someone or someone wants to see what it looks like. I could have made the same power without takin the time to polish the intake, paint other parts of the motor to look better.

There is a Corvette around here with the lambo style doors and at every show he has them open. Whats the point of doin it if you're not going to show it off? I will admit its not really my style, but I think it does look kinda cool. Not to mention he gets a lot of attention with them.

And there are also those people who want a couple more ponies and want to look good as well. Thats why you can do motor work and put big rims. And no, not everyone who has 20+" rims on their vehicle is a drug dealer. Thats profiling, and not fair to those who aren't drug dealers. I know you are going to say if you don't want to be called one then don't look like one too..but I will say this and be done-

Around here there is talk that people from down south are sodomistic pedifiles who do nothing but inbreed, wear flannel, watch nascar, drink cheap-*** beer and talk about their how they clean their tooth. Not really fair is it?

97z2801ss 09-24-2005 06:55 PM

Im not poisting as much and its argument central...

Mike Jones 09-24-2005 08:21 PM

I'm with Grant here, we didn't give this guy the welcome he deserved. If I was him I'd personally think this was a crappy forum and wouldn't return but I know better and I know as a whole the people here are much more accepting of people's different opinons than any other forum out there and I like that.
If he want's a show car that's fine, if he want's an all out race car that's fine, if he want's something in the middle that's fine to. I understand there was some misunderstanding's and that's fine but I think we should give him a better welcome.
I for one am happy you've decided to join here and I wish you nothing but the best with your car.

blackoutZ-28 09-25-2005 01:19 AM

I don't know about the lambo door just yet but just a thougnt of an idea where no one had.... I proabaly would just stick with 18" rims as orginal thought. By the way I do own another car it's a 90 honda acoord accord with kit and 17" OZ racing wheels

I personally like the lambo doors. There's almost nothing else you can do to set your car apart with one modification. There was a company that made an FBody kit, give me a couple days to see if I can find it.

PHDcamaro 09-25-2005 10:49 AM

http://www.grounddynamics.com/templa...ubFolderId=596

u can also get them from street trends i believe......... i think thats even one of owners cars on this page........... never seen them for 3rd gen though... modify a eniversal kit from JT Autosyle
