If this is the check engine light you can go to one of the auto parts stores that advertises free assistance and they will determine what the problem is and once it is repaired the light will automatically go off. If it is a maintenance alert such as low oil or change oil etc., there is a reset button, usually in the interior fuse panel, that, when pressed, will reset the indicator as long as the sensor does not detect a error. The light will come back on if the indicated maintenance action is not performed.

The maintenance light is on to remind you that you need to change motor oil for your car. The light is on because your car has been driven 7500 miles since the last time you changed oil or the person who changed oil forget to reset the maintenance record in your car. In order to turn off the light, press and HOLD the select/reset pin (where you normally choose the trip A or B) from odometer. Then start the engine, and wait for about 10 seconds until the light goes off. Once the light the light go off, you can release the pin that you are holding. Just remember to reset it every times you change oil or it will remind you again!
