I want to add aftermarket cup holder for 1989 Honda Accord?

My 1989 Honda Accord did not come with cup holders and I really need them. The transmission center hump prevents use of many aftermarket holders. Cannot use the ones that lay on the center of floor because transmission cover goes too far forward.

I've heard of a 2-cup holder for VW's that slide into the ashtray slot. Wish I had something similar for the Accord.

My idea is to buy ashtray from auto junkyard, cut down a cupholder bought from the store to remove excess plastic, then drill holes in front of ashtray, screw cupholder into ashtray and install it. Should work I think. Does anyone know?

At least in my mom's 1962 Lumina sedan I could slide a cupholder between the front seats that had only a small slit separating them. That holder won't work with the Accord and the only other thing I have found is the type that slides down by glass in the door.

I've got an '88 accord, and believe it or not, if you have a 20 oz bottle or a can of soda, it works to put it in between the seat and the parking brake near the rear of the parking break console, it would probably work for anything but a coffee cup
