Must I use a genuine honda catalytic converter replacement on my 1999...
...accord. The Honda part is $800!?

for this exact model, I'm not sure. But you usually don't need to keep a honda part, unless you don't want to lose you car warranty, then for the warranty you must use it. You mechanic will be able to tell you alternatives, and they might know a wrecker who has a cheap one in stock.

You can use an apropriate replacement or if you're in a non-Echeck area... just gut it. You'll improve your performance and economy.

no!you could defenity buy one aftermarket, they would be made in Taiwan rather then japan tho.they work just as good
as the genuine ones i replaced the complete exhaust system for the same car just before Christmas, from the manifold all the way back to the exhaust.just make sure you replace the gaskets with genuine ones and NOT aftermarket ones or it would leak emissions and would be very noisy, you might not notice it at first but it will certainly happen.and don't forget to apply gasket paste to two sides of the gasket. brand new catalic converter with two gaskets alone cost me around $165 delivered . |
