My 98 honda accord wont come out of park?
So I know there is a little secret to getting it out of park but I know it differs with models/makes. Yes, the car is on, yes my foot is on the brake. It seems like the button on the shifter wont push in all the way either..
Please help :] It is an automatic, the steering wheel is not locked, I have moved it all around and still no help. I have pumped the brake while trying to jiggle the shifter.. Not on an incline either, in a parking garage.. |
Try cranking the steering wheel one way or the other.

If it is parked on a hill the transmission maybe under stress with the weight of the vehicle against the locked gears. Give it a good hard pull

Sounds like a shift interlock issue. Shift interlock is the safety device which require you to have your foot on the brake to get it out of park. Even though you have your foot on the brake, you could possibly have a bad brake switch, or a blown fuse for the brakes. See if your brake lights come on when you hit the brake with the ignition on. If not, inspect your fuses first, then the brake switch. If your brake lights come on, you could have a bad shift interlock solenoid or possibly a stuck shifter cable.

There should be a shift lock relese where you put your key in to allow you to shift
