Why do my '98 Honda Civic brakes squeak upon pedal release?

Hi, I have a 1998 Honda Civic LX with about 103000 miles on it and my brakes squeak whenever I release the pedal. The brakes are fine besides the noise, they have good power, they don't pulsate, and they don't squeal or squeak when being used. If anyone out there has had this annoying little problem before, please tell me what you did to fix it. Just as a side note, I had a 1991 Accord EX that did it too. Both cars have front disks, rear drums, and no ABS. Thanks a lot!!!

well i have a protege and it did the same thing. it is your rear drums have a dust/dirt shield on the back and your drums are rusty and that is rust grinding just take a hammer and tap the drum and get that rust out of there and it willl quit. thats what it sounds like
