hey guys just picked up a cheap 98 SI. is there a cheap conversion for the B16 head? like to keep it naturally aspirated aswell. already got MAgnaflow catback and Edelbrock header(summit Racing). any help or advice woud be greatly appreciated. dont know where to locate a half decent priced head around here

thnx again

B-series motors/parts are NOT interchangeable with D-series.
B-series motors/parts are only interchangeable with other B's
D's with D's, and some ZC parts fit into D-series motors.
example: ZC pistons in D16

If you want DOHC VTEC for cheap, drop a B16A
even then, because of the age of your car, you
can't "legally" use any motors older than it's model year,
leaving you with the more expensive OBD-2 motors.
98 or newer.

damn. it wouldnt really be worth it. ive priced out the B- swap and its more than im interested in putting in this car.(buy an SIR for roughly the same overall) any help on what i could do? all exhaust parts are done, port and polish would help and its something i could get done locally. again thnx for the help

crazyae 03-06-2007 05:55 PM

yeah you are basically stuck in the d-series world for now, but if you cruise the classifed you can find alot of good deals when compared to retail prices. I am not sure if you have any set plans for this car as of yet, but if you wish to stay with the d-series the only fun would be forced induction. I am thinking you are going to get bored quickly with bolts ons.

the D-15 Vtech is only 950 for everything. imagine it would be plug and play for the most part. also iwas reading that the B-16a2 swap would be easy as well if i just bought the engine. the SI motor mounts are the same as the SIR are they not?Toronto JDM has the B16 motor with no tranny for 900 as well. possible to kinda jerry rig her? lol

sorry it blanked out the web site.

thats just for the engine tho. would it take alot to make it work in the SI? i know this is the engine in my buddies SIR. just not sure if the tranny in the SI is compatable with it.

vtecsyndrome 03-06-2007 06:34 PM

no the tranny you have wont mount up to the B16
and your D series stock mounts wont work either
like i stated.. only B's with B's, D's with D's
that includes heads, blocks, trannies, driveshafts, etc.

Don't bother with a D16, unless your gonna turbo it.

in the meantime, research...

Crappycivic 03-06-2007 06:48 PM

thnx for the replies. i basically just want vtech. i would be happy with that(for the time being)hence why i was looking at the D15 for 950. ill prob just keep saving till something pops up i guess.
thnx again

SOHC VTEC is not what you want,
but go for it, if it's all you can afford.
DOHC VTEC is what you want.
Drop an LS, i know it goes against the fact you
want VTEC, but, it'll give you torque, and that's what
matters. And in your chassis, it'd be aiight.
Never forget the B18 and B20, lol.

Crappycivic 03-06-2007 07:16 PM

the B18 is lookin like the way to go cost wise and i can always switch out the heads later like you said. lol i just like my bros SIR when the V kicks in. ill just take my time an research like ya said. something will pop up im sure

vtecsyndrome 03-06-2007 07:31 PM

ya man, take it one step at a time.
B18 first or better yet B20
run on that for a while, then frankie it.:smokin:
I don't doubt with a B20 i/h/e and a tune
you could no doubt pull on your bro's ride.
(especially in 3rd.)
depends on how good you can drive it.

crazyae 03-06-2007 07:49 PM

homemade turbo D-series!! hehehhhe naw just kidding... take it one step at a time and do your research on specific swaps and engines and other things that may interest you for that matter. Feel free to ask questions on this site

Crappycivic 03-06-2007 07:51 PM

thnx for the help guys. lol im sure you will be seeing me on in here in the months to come with probs as they arise during the swap lol

95hatchcivic 03-08-2007 11:43 AM

Man ..Just swap in a d16z6 its vtec...then get a turbo kit for it (not homemade) and turn the boost to like 12psi it will rape everything you see on the streets.. i have a built z6 at 13 psi and im SMOKING B series and have spent a fraction of the cost!

AMKK 03-08-2007 12:23 PM

Look into LS/Vtec or B20/Vtec. Good way to make power, will make your bro's SIR look slow all day. Don't waste your money on the SOHC, I had a SOHC ZC with a 50-shot, it was SLOW!

I defenately agree, i was a non believer after selling my EF with a JDM D15b, I had all the bolt ons with a full dyno tune, made 122WHP. Now i just bought a 98 civic si D16Y8 turbo, no feeling like boost, you think vtec is a rush, you have no clue. Boost it!!!
