B16a2 Block vs B18C1 block

my question is what's the difference between the two besides one being 1.6 and the other 1.8....i blew up my block and need some feed back...i want to get a B18C1 bottom but I dont know yet....

BrowNKiD 11-23-2006 09:04 AM

you need to be more specific on wat you would like to know... because a b16 block a gsr block both have 81mm bores and they are both vtec blocks the only difference is the gsr has 87mm stroke and the b16 has 77mm stroke... other than that pretty much idential...

If you plan on building up your car then i would suggest goin with a ls block... if your not gonna get crazy like 50shot or 8lbs of boost then id say go b20 bottom end

well actually the gsr has a crank girdle over the #2, 3 and 4 mains where the b16 does not.
Some b16s have oil squirters while all gsrs (that i've seen) have oil squirters.
Like mentioned above the gsr has a longer stroke, so the crank and rods (longer) are different than the b16s, the deck is taller on gsrs compared to b16s. The oil pan/windage tray is different on gsrs to make room for the crank girdle.

well this one car i seen on the net has b16 head port and polish and b18c1 bottom end with sleeve and bored out to 84mm. he has a whole turbo setup new rods and pistons pretty much the whole works.....he runs 10.1 at the track....most of you guys probably seen this clip... Central Florida Turbo... Blue Ek...he also races a toyota supra and eats his food

BrowNKiD 11-24-2006 07:58 AM

Thats not true. I've seen lots of b16s that DON'T have oil squirters. A general rule of thumb i've learned from my experiences is that if the engine has a factory oil cooler, it has oil squirters too. Now i've seen engines with squirters that didn't have a factory oil cooler, but everyone i've ever seen with a cooler has squirters.

B16s aren't a waste of money, especially if you want to boost it. JE 9:1's and eagle rods, balance the rotating assembly and run 20psi up to 9000 rpms and make crazy whp, just like a good friend of mine. We did all of the work/swap/build/tuning so it didn't even cost very much, and he's incredibly happy with the results, even i can't believe its only a 1.6L.

IntegraMark 11-29-2006 02:51 AM

are you talking about the setup in Dennis' car?

zman 11-29-2006 11:29 AM

yup....did you ever see it? He drove it through all of this summer.
He took it to boost and spent like $6G's, then towed it to splitfire from boost and spent $11G's there, but still wasn't happy.
So we pulled the engine out got another one, rebuilt it, installed the BOV that splitfire took off, tuned it solidly (which splitfire failed to do as well) and now he's super happy with it and only spent a fraction of what he did just at boost.

IntegraMark 11-29-2006 01:27 PM

boost was his first mistake. i saw Riguez @ speakerworks a little while back and he was tellin' me how much he spent on the car and told me that boost ripped him off saying that there was parts in there that weren't really in there and spitfire didn't wanna work on his car but did it anyways and after all the time and money spent it still wasn't putting out as much power as he wanted. that thing should've been done 3 years ago.

zman 11-29-2006 01:35 PM

when it left splitfire it made 311whp on 15psi with a 40whp dip at 5000rpms when vtec kicked in, then at 6000rpms the power came back up.
So $11G's for splitfire to steal guages, take off his BOV, not finish welding the roll cage, they wired in this switch where they told dennis that he had to flick the switch while starting the car, i asked paul about what the switch did and he told me not to worry about it and just flick the damn switch while starting it. The car would barely start, run like crap, smoke like a (this isn't splitfires fault though, the engine was put together wrong by dan from performance improvements and never broken in properly) and when vtec kicked in the car actually went slower for about 1000rpms or so.
Boost, well, i don't even want to get started about that brutal shop. Lets just say, paul at splitfire changed EVERYTHING john at boost did.
