b20vtec vs. lsvtec

Alright guys so the question is should i build a B20VTEC or an LSVTEC i want alot of power n/a i can play with for next summer..but the summer after that would like to throw it some moderate boost so which would be best to build for speed and reliability

Leung 11-26-2007 01:18 AM

LSvtec on boost is around the price of a n/a b20vtec put together. Id have to say LSvtec is the best B series engine for boosting because of cost and a small displacement advantage over the gsr.

depends on what you wanna spend but imo LS would be the way to go if you plan on boosting it. b20 cylinder walls are 3mm thinner. you can't build for N/A then just toss on some boost. if you want n/a you'll want high compression but if you want boost, you'll want low compression.

i'm building an N/A ls/vtec cuz the block and head was free and pistons were cheaper. my compression ratio should be in the mid 11's.

ls/vtec it has more options and is a stronger block.

its true that the b20 block walls are thinner. but you can do b20vtec + boost easy. the walls dont really matter if you tune right but you are restricted on how much boost but really if you b20vtec your doing about 14 sec at 1/4 and boost well then your running 13-12 easy if you have good hook up but its up to you.

id rethink what u just said because it takes alot more then those minor calculations to hit any of the above stated times

TTZ_JSpec 11-27-2007 09:51 PM

ls/vtec FTW

JDM_tuning 11-27-2007 10:08 PM

would a ls-v swap be cheaper than a b16 or would it be better to get a turbo on a b16 with a nice tune
? my plan iis for this year to run a stock motor maybe some cams i/m and i/h/e than next year save up and build the bottom end and run some serious boost what do u guys think?

Leung 11-28-2007 12:23 AM

lsvtec has a pretty noticeable torque advantage over the b16 especially off boost, cost roughly the same plus the long geared ls tranny keeps it spoolin. Id say u bolt on turbo kit 6-7psi on that d and run up to 200 whp for less than 1g on stock internals.

JDM_tuning 11-28-2007 12:31 AM

lol it always gets back to the boosed D everyone saais its the best way to go...if i end up boosting the D what turbo set up should i use and which tranny has the best gearing for boost?

JDM_tuning 11-28-2007 12:34 AM

o and whats the best to tune with? i was tihnking of the hondata s300 or chrome or uberdata..so whats the best and cheapest to tune boosted motors

Leung 11-28-2007 12:39 AM

its all custom or greddy, apexi kits, just dont buy ebay chrome turbos
like 1g 14b dsm turbos is common, well check out homemadeturbo.com

JDM_tuning 12-06-2007 11:23 PM

i was thinkin of runnin a homemade set up but i dont want I/C pipes an flying off under boost lol lookin to make around 350whp on built motor thinkin of goin t3/4 dont want too much lag but also dont want alot of stress on the motor i wanna no more than 16psi what do you guys think? new to the turbo seen

like i said in my first post, there's no sense building for n/a then swtiching to boost. most of the parts you wanna put on this year are gonna be useless for your turbo build. motor swaps and build can be as cheap as you want but it won't be reliable.

cheap. fast. reliable. <--- Pick two.

Hondata is some good coin. you can use chrome. ZMan here on the board has a turbo b16 tuned with chrome. he can do the tuning for you....at a cost of course.

Anyone know of someone selling a good B20 Vtec build?
