the best engine for the job
ok hear is the deal i have a 95 honda civic cx nothing in it i want to make the car the fastest it can be without a k series or without a turbo or supercharged... i also want to run nos.... the problem i have is that i have a heavy foot and i think a turbo is or charger would get abused to much and i will brake it so i want to kno the best way to get seriouse power whith what motor config and what parts to put on it

Get a H22A swap its cheaper than a keseries and work better atleast in my case/ Vheck my thread about my car under automotice pics and videos it under new memeber here is my ride.. Hope it helps

ETD Racing ( one of our local Honda tuning shops) doesn't recommend doing a H22 Swap because they give a lot of problems.
I would go with a GSR , or any B Series motor |

Well looks like your headed in the direction of a B-series N/A. I don;t know if money is an issue or not, but are you planning to build something?
|
get an h22...I know someone that will sell his to you for 2 grand!!!! thats maaad cheap!
|
you can do a gsr swap or build an ls/vtec. the sleeves in the ls block are stronger than the b20 and is built right you could be faster than putting a type-r swap in your car and 1/2 the price

If you want all motor power from a honda then built B20 VTEC is the way to go. If you have somewhat more conservative outlook, then a B18C5 (or B18C R for JDM models) is a good way to go without breaking the bank and still have a car that will beat most of what is on the road.
If you can't afford either of these alternatives then start off with a b16 and work up from their. b16's are a good base for bigger & better things. WHen you have cash to burn buy a b20z and put the b16 head on and you will make roughly 180hp+ at the wheels with a good tune. And in a car as light as a cx 180 whp translates into 13's |
b series...
|
drop a rebuilt B17, or stroke out a B16
|
H22s are nice, but they're so damn heavy in civics. If all you care about is straight line, then go for it, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice handling that much just for a little more power.
|
If money isn't an issue, just go with a b18c5 (type r), Although a B20 vtec might make more hp to the wheels and will probably make more ft/lbs, you don't even need to open the b18c5 or tune it or do anything else that will mess with it's reliability.
With that said, I'll have to admit that you sound like a 16 year old dreaming. Running nitrous all the time is not only probably going to hurt your car more than a properly tuned turbo setup, but you're only going to see the power when you spray. With a turbo, you will see power all the time (and more than you will see with nitrous as well). |
why is everyone saying the b18c5?? that motor only puts out 195hp(us) and it has high compression....wouldn't be better to get a stroked b18c or a modded h22a??
|
^^ Because the B18C5 can do it every day for years and years. You are getting a nice stock motor with the legendary Honda reliability.
|
i would go GSR + Turbo....screw H22
