bye bye power steering
 

i have decided i dont have room for power steering with my new larger turbo. my b18c1 is wedged into my da pretty tight. instead of just taking the pump off, is there a non power steering rack that will fit in a da possibley dx eg or dx ef? anyone know?

no idea what will fit or not but didnt at one point base model civics come with no power steering? im sure if you can fit the rack in it could just be a matter of using your tie rods

ya there all kinds of civics without power steering just wondering if theres any generation of civic that the rack might be easiest to fit in

With the exception of a few DX models, pretty much all 4th gen hatchbacks and crx's had no power steering (89-91). Of course the earlier ones didn't either but I'm sure anything before the 4th gen wouldn't work. Pretty much all 5th gen and newer have power-steering. Truth be told I don't think you can swap the rack though.

once again i know there are plenty of civics without power streering, i plan on using a rack from a civic with no power steering. Iam just wondering if anyone has tried this before, and if they know which year of civic is easiest to swap in, anyone know?

This guys method is a little complicated if you don't have a lot of experience working on hydraulic systems. Basically you want to loop your input and output lines together on the rack. Personally I like the idea the guy in the link has as it would likely make the manual steering a bit easier

Y not jus used ur powersteering rack. It has a shorter lock to lock than a manuel one. Jus cap off the ps line and ur good 2 go.

ya thats what i did with my old coupe when i swaped a b16 in it. i didnt have the upper bracket for the pump, so i left the lines there for when i got a bracket thought i never did, worked great. i just thought if i could get a manual rack to work it might be a lil cleaner. im going to get a rack from a eg and see what it will take to put it in and if not, last option ill just run no pump with my da rack. Oh ya,your guys movies kick ass brown kid

cap off the PS at the rack and change the fluid in it once a year or just get a manual rack like you intended.

what about where it goes into the trans at the speedo cable
