can i put a b16 head on a b18c5 block.

i have a b16 right now and want to build a 2.0 litre all motor. i also have a old b18c5 block. i have never seen anyone use a type r block with a b16 head just wondering if their was a reason for that. i think it might be pushing it if i take my b16 and make it in to a 2.0.. whhat u guys think..

Thanks

Same Head!!!!!!!!

Type R motors use the same head as a B16(PR3)..
the difference is wuts inside the head....such as valves, valve springs, retainers and cams... also there is a diff intake man. and tb..

the only diff between b16 head and b18c5 head besides the internals, is b18c5 is ported from the factory and b16 is not, i just swapped a type r head with intake mani and tb, on to my jdm b16 giving me 175whp and 124tq

There is no significant gain to be had from doin this swap. I believe there is a dyno sheet where they compare the b16 head with the itr head, on a gsr block. They basically pulled the same numbers, maybe +- 5 hp at times.
And making a crvtec thats reliable is hard work, and takes a lot of money. Those things have extremely thin side walls, so your probably going to want to sleeve it.
If i were you i would just put the b16 head on the type r block. You will end up with a basic type r motor minus 5 hp.

are u a retard, i gained 15whp and about 10tq with putting the itr head on my b16 block thats not all from the head, it's a combonation of the valve train and the intake manifold. the only way u only lose 5 hp is if u had a b16 head with type r valve train, intake mani and tb, because the only physical diff in the heads is type r is ported and b16 isn't. i dynoed my engine before and after this head swap. i guarntee u put a b16 head and intake mani on a b18c5 block u will only make about 160whp.....

BOOSTED_ITR 01-09-2006 10:56 PM
