Chipping a P28???? MORE POWER????
 

Hey peeps, just wanted to know if i were to chip my P28 ecu, would there be a horse power increase????

well it depends on the chip set up and the callibration of the chip
Most chips basically engage vtec sooner for instance in stead of 5600 rpm it'll engage at 4800 rpm and also will provide more Fuel thus you run richer and most likely the redline limiter is increased to whatever most are about 8800 rpm with the loss of the governor which i love

if your engine (internally speaking) is stock and CR is stock then NO. But if you have a built engine then a CUSTOM chip is the way to go. Key word is custom, made while on the dyno using a wideband o2, not a crappy generic "mugen copy" or "skunk2 copy"....stay away from those.

I RECCOMMEND EVEN FOR A FAIRLY STOCK B16 A UBERDATA...the uberdata is almost as tuner friendly as a HONDATA yet can run stock settings and configurations everything is fully accessable and tunable with the UBERDATA and doesnt cost much more than the "mugen chip" or "spoon chip"

Ask any honda tuner...for cost efficient engine management tuning they'll tell you UBERDATA

yup, uberdata is what i use. Well i had a mugen copy chip in my ecu, went to the dyno and saw my a/f ratio and almost myself.
Uberdata is the program used to modify the .bin file, its not the kind of chip you put in your ecu.

hey guys im interested in programming my own chip for a friend's P28 ECU. He has an OBD1 P28 ECU running a GSR motor in an EK hatch. How do we go about editing the computer? what hardware do we need to buy? (rom editor?) cables, etc? anyone do this stuff before? We had it done at splitfire and it looked cool, just wondering if maybe we can tinker with it ourselves too. Any advice?

well you will need to download uberdata or crome (rom editor), its free. This is what you use to modify the .bin file that you will later burn to the chip. Then you will need some sort of eprom burner (chip burner). I am using the moates burn1 and its very simple and user friendly. I would also recommend getting a wideband o2 sensor/controller before messing with the fuel maps b/c you can seriously mess up your engine if you don't know what you are doing. And then get a nokia cable or hulog or other datalogging cable and set ur ecu up to datalog. And of course a laptop with uberdata/crome to log the data, and its just easier to have a laptop to bring into the car to log, mod the .bin, and burn the chip all on the fly.
You can also buy an ostrich (rom simulator) so you don't have to keep burning different files. Its basically so you can just do a run, and change the .bin file on the fly then burn the file to the chip. It just eliminates having to turn the car off pull the chip out, burn a new chip, and try over. This can get frustrating, but i don't think an ostrich is really necessary for a beginning tuner. Maybe if you do this all day long as your job.

:laugh: you learn something new everyday....... i didn't know that g35's were fast until today. my old ef b20v would instantly pull 3 cars on 350Z's. and that was only in 2nd. Zman has been doing his studying. listen to this man.

You can only learn so much by searching on the internet. If you really wanna learn something start doing it.

I have a spoon chip on my B16. It was put in as the swap was being performed so I can't comment on the performance gains over a stock computer. All I DO know is that the thing gets worse gas milage than my old 78 Malibu. Next summer im getting my comp reprogrammed. Its so cheap to reprogram a honda, Buying a chip is a waste of money. I just ended up with my spoon program because it was already on this computer we had, it was cheap and I needed one that weekend.
