coil over advice
 

95 civic coupe si
its a women driving it,
just put 16's (jdm looking gold with lip) on
and now convinced her it needs to go lower,
the cars only got 60 thousand original k's on it so its sitting high with fresh suspension,

is coil overs my best option instead of springs?
i dun want her to complain the rides bad, but she likes the ricer bounce apparently, if i go with coils, wats my best option? shes not rich so cheaper the better, and its a daily so it doesnt need to hug corners.

and so far were thinking, 2.5 inches in the front and 2 in the rear, want to c a lil camber going on jus for looks, but dun want her to mess the car up by not slowing down for bumps n ish like that

any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated

well, i'd say coilovers and adjustable shocks. if its driven in winter, then its easier to raise the car up. you could go with springs, but then you'd be low all time.. its up to you.

thats a good point and i never thought about that, it will be drivin this year and then im doing all the body work in jan/feb and spraying it a gloss deep black with gold pearl in the clear so i think after that it will be a summer car.

is there a huge difference in coil overs, i mean u can get ones for 20 bucks on ebay? or 650+ at a shop...y the HUGE difference...?

there's sleeve coilovers and full coilovers. sleeve coilovers slide on to a regular strut and full coilover is the spring and strut. full coilovers are better but if you're on a budget get the sleeve coilovers and some adjustable struts.

you can get a set of skunk2 full coils for about 800 bucks, i have them now and they're alright for driving regularly, but im switching to something more aggressive next summer

thanks alot guys, but ya its not for me, its not gunna be drifting n hitting excesive speeds or need to be aggresive n ish, its a daily, and as long as it doesnt drive considerably worse than stock, shed be happy, im not trying to be cheap but thats alot for wat is needed. does neone know a cheap alternative?

look around the classifieds here. i just got a set of used sleeve coilovers (don't know brand, they are blue/purple springs with red sleeve things) for $50 for my civic, which i plan to put on stock shocks too lol. (juss looking to get low cheap)

thats exactly wat i want, low for cheap, problem is its not my car, im jus building it and driving it as my daily, my cars to heat for me right now...so it cant ride like ass...

cheap = not engineered.

youre looking to make the car dangerous on the road... but just "making the car low" you are making it more dangerous for your girlfriend, who probably doesnt know how to drive a car beyond its basic controls.. and now your going to mess with the suspension and create an ill handling car with inferior parts that have a very good chance of simply breaking and causing a crash due to the fact that they are of such low quality.

leave the car alone until you know more.

6Msentra is kinda right dude, also lowering your car on sleeves can cause you to blow the stock shocks making you spend more in the end. Dont cut corners even if it is daily driven. I always say you gotta pay to play!!!

yea, but if you go like 1.75 inches-2inches, that be like riding on lowering springs, and people say you can use stock shocks with that setup, so it wouldnt realy blow it (would it?)...

iunno,for me, theres like wheel gap which i hate so i just want to cover that up.. when i get like $150, im switching over to tein springs on stock shocks, and there after to adjustable.

and its not that i want her on unsafe or bad handeling components...
but its her paying for this so the cheaper the more happy she will be (ive done stereo and rims, i think its bout time she "payed to play" lol)

and i am familiar with how suspension works, my original post was asking wat the best setup is from experience, u never know till u try, so i am hoping to gain knowledge from wat u have tried,

so basicly where we are at now is.
sleeves are cheaper and require a spring compressor,
coil overs are more expensive, dun buy cheap but will be more liked by her
and stock would be the simplest and safest (but unacceptable LOL)

im not looking to dump it by the way, as drift n shift pointed out, i put 16's on it and its jus got to much of a gap, the stock shocks should support a couple inches or less right?
i once helped
put a del sol down 3 and a half on stock shocks and it lasted till i believe now (saw it driving tonight

my first suspension setup was coilover sleeves on stock struts. i dropped it 2-2-5 inches the that marked the end of my struts pretty quick. the ride was horrible. i wouldn't go more than 2". you gotta remember that some aftermarket struts are designed to be used with lowering springs and sleeve coilovers are shorter in length to allow more stroke in the bound before bottoming out.

do you plan to install them yourself? if so, the only time you'll need a spring compressor is to seperate the stock strut assembly, and there's ways to get around having to use one. then you gotta worry about snapping LCA bolts.

lol yes those pesky lower arm bolts are a bitch sometimes and their $10 each from honda.

You won't need a spring compressor, just slap an impact gun on and go nuts, the end result is fun and you get to do it 3 more times after that haha
