There is a tube that goes from the therostat housing to the otherside of the block. They use a O-ring to seal the tube to the block, i am not sure what end they use it, but the other side of the tube i belevie is just flanged. The best best would be to pressureize the cooling system and really have a look where its coming from. You can do this with the car running, using a coolant system pressure tester, or use a dye (have not tried it) that can be put in the cooling system and seen quite clearly(canadian tire i beleive has it).

In a leak situation wether it be oil or coolant, always try to find the highest point to correctly establish where it is coming from.
