Which Engine???

:dunno: 92 Civic sedan 1.5L (d15b7) smoking super bad now. I'm not sure if its seals and guides or rings or both, so im lookin for some info. I'm thinking about a JDM d15b vtec swap ($700.00). is this a good engine or should i just fix my engine, swap in a Si motor, or do mini me head swap. I would like to do a b-series, however money is a issue. what do you guys think?

this is a good choice however make sure you get the corresponding obd engine (obd1)

teknotics can chip my ecu to run the vtec so i dont have to get one.

xcivicnationx 03-28-2007 07:35 PM

drop in the d15b, they rock right out of the box

turbojizer 04-16-2007 10:53 AM

Find a b16a1 in tha classified...
make shure u got tha mounts..

vtecsyndrome 04-16-2007 11:14 PM

drop a B20:smilie_da , cheap, loads of torque, good bang for your buck

green-eg 04-16-2007 11:20 PM

what roughly would a b20 swap cost? like ima need axles, trans, harness, mounts, plus a decent b20. thats why i was thinkin another d series and maybe throw a turbo on it. im not lookin for tons of power, its a sedan so no matter what i do it'll always be slow.

civtegra90 04-17-2007 06:28 PM

dont talk like that, sedans can be fast. if you want to stick with a d series, swap in a twin cam ZC. theyre pretty nasty for the price. my buddy has one in a 95 si coupe and its mid 15s with short ram and header

green-eg 04-17-2007 06:47 PM

well thats why i was thinkin the D15b vtec its the same price as the ZC but it has vtec and 1hp (lol) more. which one would be better? what are the pros and cons of each?

92Teggy 04-19-2007 11:17 PM

ZC, there cheap and u can build on them really well,
u can find b16's cheap...worth looking into

civtegra90 04-20-2007 12:12 AM

The same guy I know that has the twin ZC had a d15b in the last si coupe he had. didnt seem to have enough torque for the heavy car. My vote is for the twin ZC over the d15b in this case. The cons of the twin ZC would have to be that its a little harder to find parts for, although the d16a1 '87 teg motor is very similar. The pros would have to be more bottom end grunt and less wiring, even though wiring in vtec is retardedly easy. They also sound amazing up around 7000 for a non-vtec motor.

It comes down to how much money you have.

d15b vtec? What tranny are you going to be using, hopefully not a non-vtec...

B20 Wing'd 04-20-2007 09:19 PM

i just recently did a b20/b16a swap in my integra rs. along with my v2 it screams. i was impressed by how much of a difference it made. i think its worth the money to wait and save to do it right the first time. a quick and easy way to get a b20 block would be to go to a wrecker and find a wrote off cr-v and get the block. its worth a shot.

IntegraMark 04-22-2007 05:20 AM

if you're on a budget, stick with a zc. zc may have one less hp but it also has more low end torque(peak numbers are bragging rights). the 1hp won't make a difference and if your tranny isn't a vtec tranny, putting the vtec engine on it will just make acceleration slower.

green-eg 04-22-2007 09:29 AM

my car doesn't have the vtec tranny but my buddy's got a si tranny in hit non vtec car and i find that i hve more acceleration than he does. i am on a budget, thats why i need to do this cheap and reliable. i also picked up a hf turbo manifold, so i will be boosting what ever motor i decide to go with. B series is outta the question too much money.
