engine light
for some reason while i was driving the check engine light came up. im driving a 2000 civic sir but don't know why it came up my cars running perfectly i don't know if i should take it to the dealers or just let it run because there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. any suggestions to what i should do or what the problem may be? please and thank you

O2 sensors, MAF, plugs, plug wires, clogged air filter, etc..
I'd run out to a Mr.Lube or Midas, and get them to scan it for free. At least it'll narrow down what the problem is. Maybe its misfiring. Who knows.. |
mr lube or midas does it for free? i though they charged like 90 bucks just to hook it up with the computer? so i just show up there and ask them to scan for whats wrong and they should do it for free? is so thats crazy i wish i had known earlier!!

I know Mr.Lube does it. Im not 100% sure about Midas. I used to work at Mr.Lube and I did it all the time.
Just go to them and tell them you had a oil change at another Mr.Lube location, and now your CEL is on. They will for sure 100% scan it for free. |
could be your gas cap..
don't laugh.. seriously if it doesn't click atleast 3 times it will sometimes send a code.. next time you get gas giver a crank |
find out how to read the code its giving.. you can do this if you loop the plug down by your ecu with a wire.. its real simple just loop it then count the flickers the cel gives you.. check on google how to do this.

i called up mr lube they said its gonna charge 39.99 for the scan which is i think pretty good compared to other places, but ye i dont know this guy said its not free. oo yea i checked out the gas cap a while back lol that wasnt the problem

you can do it yourself for free

i coudnt find the wire i had to loop i checked it out on some sites and they said is two wires that are in a green housing? cant find it im gonna check it out again
" On the passenger side of your car, under the dash beneath the glove box, you will find a green cover above the kickpanel that houses a blue connector that has two wires." Attachment 14583 |
i checked it out manually and got the code 90 Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected in the fuel tank area. however i was confused since the abs lights was also blinking but the engine light did 9 long blicks so i got 90 but just wondering whether i was supposed to look at abs light as well cause it was going out of control.

I wouldn't ignore engine light. check your oil level first.
|
ya check the code and fix it yourself its real simple
