Help! Hi. I drive a 2000 automatic Honda Civic. My engine has shut down

on me twice what's the problem? I take really good car of my car. I take my car in for regular maintenance according to the car manual that came with the car. No accidents (knock on wood). Frequent oil changes. In July I pulled into my carport and applied the brake and the engine just died. I turned the engine over and was got the car started again. Earlier today I applied the brake in a parking lot and the engine died again. I was able to start the car again thankfully. Any suggestions would be helpful...do you think it might be a problem with the distributor cap, transmission, etc?

From the information that you have given, it seems the brake application is the connection to the engine cutting off. Could it be electrical? Maybe applying the brake sets it off. Are there other conditions when your engine has cutt off, like running the air, wipers, etc.?

Sounds like the transmission to me...maybe it's not allowing the car to idle at a stop, and causing the engine to stall instead. Isn't that the torque converter's job? I have always driven manuals, so my knowledge is limited on the inner workings of autos. I'd take it to a local mechanic and get it diagnosed..then you can decide what to do. Good luck!
