hey everyone Wat do u think????LOOK

i have a b16 ....i was wondering wat u think would be better a b20 or b18 bottom end or leave the b16 bottom end and put a different head on like a gsr or type r...

displacement owns. i'd say b20Z shortblock (or b20b jdm counterpart) with your stock head, ITR cams, h/e/i will make 190-200whp tuned....with 135-140wtq. my b20 with ITR cams, 4-2-1 header w/2.5" collector, no cat, 2.5" mandrel exhaust, generic intake w/hks filter made 200whp@7500 tuned. lastly, keep your revs down (7500-7900rpm) and you should be o.k.

Problem, B20 vtecs have reliablity issues. you may, wait... will make lots of power and torque out of it, but plan to rebuilt in 50,000k, or so.
So, I would personally do a B18A/B block, with your B16 head, there is tons of parts for that exact motor build out there such as,

JE Pistons
http://www.jepistons.com/pdf/2006-sportcomp4.pdf
(bottom of page)

Eagle rods
http://www.eaglerod.com/products/Hon...da%20rods.html
(third down on list)

and obviously tons of parts for the B16 head:

http://www.todaracing.com/products/h...18c/index.html

So not to bash the B20 Vtec, good power plant, but not as reliable as Ls/Vtec, but thats my opinion, Cheers

My vote goes on the b18 bottom end. b20 is bigger, but weaker. Personally I would prefer to bore out my b18 for more displacement.

b18 gets my vote, very very strong motors, and good power with a little bit of tuning and a few performance parts here and there

you guys think b20 blocks are weaker, but, there are plently of b20's out there making 225-245whp. 84-84.5mm bore. the myth is that b20 sleeves are weak. well, when fully tuned b20v's run very long and strong. people have very little knowledge about the importance of a proper tuned motor. too many peopl spend thousands on their motor, but, skimp out with a vafc and chipped ecu. the weak point on non-vtec motors are the rod bolts which tend to stretch with rpm. lastly for those that don't know, RS Machines sells cast 84-85mm usdm itr spec pistons. have any of you guys owned a b20v or are you just believing what you read? my basic b20v (oem jdm b20b shortblock) set up made 200whp and smoked almost everything i raced. it was fully tuned via Hondata. let me hear from the people who have first hand experience with b20v problems. i'm sure there are a few out there, but, they have not posted on this thread yet. i used to believe this b20 is weak , until i tried it for myself. its more myth than fact. my next build is gonna be a b20 shortblock with 84.5mm rs pistons, CTR cams, ITR IM & T/B, 4-2-1 header and 3" exhaust w/cat. stock head, 87 stroke. i guarantee 225whp & 150+wtq, daily driven, 8600rpm revlimiter. when built properly, the b20 is strong. now, road-racing with a b20v is a different thing.

I would say B20 bottom end... Also if you do a b20/VTEC properly it should be just as reliable as any other Honda motor!! Call Defcon racing

If u go with the B18 im sure it will do the job...however B20's is torqy... and I know I would regret the smaller swap when I get dusted by the B20

speaking of which buddy of mine PACB20 on gtcars...has the B20 btm B16 head and boy is she pulling..but like buddy said previous tuning is crucial...

just my two cents....

ohhenrygsr 06-24-2006 09:44 AM

awesome job man

d15zcvtec 06-29-2006 07:15 PM

b20 is definately the best way to go but dont cheap out on engine management or you will regret it. I was goin to install b20 block with b16 head, itr pistons/valves and so on, but i decided to get a d15b and boost it.
My only regret is all the D series motors have low torque being a SOHC and all, my next swap will most DEFINATELY be a DOHC boosted. Way more torque in the DOHC! Only advantage about a boosted D(SOHc) is that its VERY cheap on parts compared to the B(DOHC) series engines.

ganjafarmer 07-03-2006 01:58 PM

i say the b20, you'll be very satisfyed in the end result and numbers
