I dunno where to begin

Alright I have a 95 integra and I'm having a problem where occasionally I will be accelerating then all of a sudden it'll start to "chug" I won't lose power or gain it'll just start to chug, to fix I just put it into neutral then back into gear or I can slowly chug along and it'll fix itself fairly quickly. It doesn't happen all the time it's just the odd time here and there and there's no specfic gear it does it in happens more in first in second but it's also happend in 3rd n 4th

any help would be great

timing maybe? did you do anything regarding the distributor? :dunno:

Barry95 08-15-2006 11:41 PM

maybe your coil or your distributor cap, spark plugs and wires????

Taunto 08-16-2006 11:20 AM

didn't do anything to the distributor, I think I'm gonna start with plugs, filters etc

I would first look into tune up iteams before making big assumtions. Let me break it down for you...

If you want to check for spark plug wire issues run the car and have a squirt bottle on hand and spray the wires. If the car hesitates or changes in idle tone you wire are leaking. However if you have you factory spark plug wires in wiring loom covering and clips to direct the wires in the right direction then thats not the issue. If your wires are touching any metal/plastic/or other material the wire covering can arc intermittenly to that material causing a rough idle feeling, but probably not the cause of your issue. You can pin point this by looking for a cloudy whiteish where the wire is touching. Remeber the voltage carried in those wires in much easily arced to other things then go through all that wire to jump the gap on the plug.

Spark plugs are an easy one to check for contanmination and wear. You should see on factory vehicle more of a whitish brown colour to the plug. Black is not a good sign and i recommend replacement or atleast cleaned. Also if the porcelin or ground strap (on the inside hard to see) is pitting that is not a good sign either. Plugs are usually hard to explain you should just know by looking at them and should also tell you your combustion chamber happenings and if the plugs could use the change. Also cap and rotor are another thing to address and if the cap and rotor are pitting they need to be changed.

Also recommend you change your fuel filter as a clogged filter can cause a situation such as this and an old filter can actually blow by the filtered containminants (water & debris) which in result is bad for the injectors and engine. Also on top of that you should do a canister style injector flush.

If you really want to brake it down more specifically and if this is an obd2 vechile take it to a shop or the dealer and ask for a print out of reading of your short and long term fuel trims. If you can get me those numbers i would be more then willing to help you furthter. Oh and ofcourse check other fluids and fluids to make sure you car is up to par. If you do get the short and long term fuel trim readings 100% is ideal.

No check engine light has come on?

oil can seep into the distributer cap through a bad seal where the dizzy meets with the head, check in the cap
