I overheated my automatic transmission yesterday. What damage did it likely suffer?

Yesterday I got stuck on a dirt road in the rain, which turned to mud. I had to work my Honda CR-V (automatic transmission, 85,000 miles) really hard to get out of there, including up steep muddy hills. My coolant boiled over and my transmission overheated, causing temporary improper shifting (it wouldn't upshift as I accelerated), as well as at least one transmission slip that I noticed. I also noticed that my transmission fluid smelled burnt. It was relatively new fluid in good condition before this. I know I'll have to change it now.Anyway, after letting the car cool down for hours, things seemed back to normal. I've driven it about 50 miles since then, with no further incident or strange occurrences. Is it likely that my transmission was permanently damaged by this, or is a one-time transmission overheating something that I shouldn't worry too much about? Besides changing the fluid, is there anything else I should do now?

The transmission is most likely blown, but get it checked.
