...could i use the same transmission? you know, instead of replacing the engine and transmission, can i just change the engine and keep the same 5 speed transmission?

no because the tranny from your car is mostlikely a d series tranny a d wont bolt up to a b but you can get any b series tranny and it will bolt right up
