Motor swap E-Tests

I've moved onto my thrid K car, and found out some good info on the Ontario Drive Clean program. I was worried about passing the drive clean with my K swap in my 98 EK due to the fact that the orginal motor in that car is a 1.6L and now has a 2.0L with RH and all. Heres how the DCF test cars with motor swaps.

If you have a motor swap, your car is considered a "Hot Rod" and Hot Rods are tested as follows.

1999 light duty cars and earlier will be tested at the 1980 emission standards. Meaning that the only emission test being done is the gas cap test. (Holy did I ever luck in picking a 98 EK to swap a K20a2 into.

If your car is 2000 or newer with a motor swap a full emission test will be done on the car do to the specs of the motor not the car. Meaning if you swap a K24a2 into your EP, you will be tested against the TSX standards. For the gas cap test as well as tail pipe test.

To prove that your car is considered a "Hot Rod" you must show proof at the DCF that your car does not have the manufactors motor for that year of car in it. Fair easy to do. I when to a dealer and they wrote me an invoice, free of charge.

Hope this help out anyone considering swaps in Ontario.
