My civic is posessed!!

i have a 96 civic dx... today i was driving down the garderner and suddenly the engine light went on and my speedometer started going crazy like up to 220 and down to 60 even though my speed remained constant

then i took an exit and continued to drive a bit and my cars shifting was wayyyy off... by the way its an automatic car...

it would lurch forward and not move even though i was pressing the gas hard... it was generally really messed up...also my lights were pulsating whenever the car was on...

went to my mechanic and he thought maybe the speed sensor... it wasnt that.... then we checked some error codes which brought up a list of problems... we tried changing the alternator and that worked to some degree... my transmission went back to shifting normally and the car runs fine..

but my engine light is still on sending out o2 error codes... checked the exhaust manifold and it has a crack... the heat most likely damaged the o2 sensor I think...

so im thinking that i need to buy 2 o2 sensors and a dx exhaust manifold... anyone have any experience with this sort of problem....

buy a ignition coil, because you are going to need one, that is the first sign of a dying coil :thumbsup

i found the problem... all along it was a wire touching ground...my friends father works for honda and knew what it was immediately after i told him the symptoms. apparently it is a problem that happens to ek civic models dx and lx. Honda charges 200 bucks to fix this problem... but i could fix it no problem

if anyone has a similar issue let me know

wire touching gound

could you tell us where this bad wire was found under the hood.

thanks

brownkaos112 05-23-2005 07:43 PM

hard to describe... with you facing the car and the hood open... between your intake manifold and firwall about halfway down... there is a bracket with wires... its easier to see from under the car

bad wire

Thanks for the tip really appreciate it.
