is OBD2 to OBD1 Legal in Ontario?
 

Is it Legal and will it pass an etest if you convert your car from ODB2 to ODB1 in Ontario?

I have read that it is illegal in many of the States to swap a older engine into a newer car.

I have also read that there are no problems here in Ontario for etests if you get a letter stating that the engine did not come in that car (hot rod status), but what if you do not swap engines and just switch from ODB2 to ODB1?

converting to a lower obd is illegal, but says nothing about what engine you have. You could have an engine converted to a newer or older obd. Remeber that obd is really more of less emmissions related thats why we have the stages which each have standards. in the honda/acura world everyone wants obd1 because of the enegine management support out there. Many rom editting softwares have been released, where obd2 can be modified but mroe expensive and much harder.

Is using hondata illegal then?
The reason i say this is because on the hondata website (Applications By Vehicle) for 96+ vehicles (OBD2) ,except k series, they all at least have note 2,6,7.

Notes 2,6,7 are as follows:
2. Manual transmissions only.
6. OBDII to OBDI adapter harness required.
7. OBDI ECU swap.

I'm thinking now maybe I am confused and doing a OBD1 ECU Swap in a OBD2 car using the OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness (Honda/Acura OBD2 to OBD1 Conversion Harnesses) is perfectly legal and maybe the outside world can't tell the difference. By "outside world" I mean maybe when they (etest centres) plug a OBD2 reader in to your car with a swaped OBD1 ECU maybe they can't tell that there is a swaped ECU since there is a conversion harness.

I hope my post makes sence as it is confusing me a little haha.
