Prelude Plz Read!

Hello, Thanks For Reading:thumbsup:

I have a 90 Honda Prelude which i was given. if has a blown engine which is why it was FREE.:lol_hitti

Im wondering what engine will fit and be easiest to swap on a low budget.

i have a d15 (vtec) available for 3 bills is this possible?
is there a better choice? what will be the easiest?

Thanks Again Everyone.:smilie_da

those preludes originally came with 2.0litre engines which made from 104hp -140hp depending on the level of your trim (i.e 2.0s, 2.0si, si). the d15b makes 130, so its not bad, however, the engine is 1.5litres and should be smaller than 2.0 and so installation issues might arise. the best choice i think would be the h22 from the next gen preludes. 2.2 litres which makes like 200hp, not bad. however, this would cost your more (around 2500 give or take)

edit. the easiest would be to get a JDM 88-91 prelude motor. these usually come with low clicks and will be a direct replacement

didn't those come with a b-series motor? i'm not too fermiliar with ludes but i heard they had a B series motor in them but not like the b-series in tegs and jdm civics and such. mounts might be different in some way

Hi, I've got an 89si Lude. The only easy swap is another 3rd gen prelude motor. Your lude either has a b20a5(2.0), or a B21a1(2.1). It is a b series, but it mounts differently than everything else. So you can either find a used motor to replace it with, or get a jdm b20a which can replace either engine.

b20a/b/z all mount the same way, no? if so that means any bseries would drop right in.

NO, B20a mounts totally different, b20b/z mount the same as a B16 or B18. B20a sits tilted back to clear the low hoodline of the prelude. The only way to swap in another b-series is if you make custom mounts. And even with custom mounts, you will have shitty ground clearance, or have to cut a hole in your hood.

there used to be a motor mount kit but it has been dicountinued so if you want to drop in a B engine everything has to be custom made.If you need help check out this forum too 3rd Gen - Preludepower.com and here a an h22 write up H22 swap

ok just one thing the b20a5 or the b21a1 engines are bolth set on a 18-20 degree angle so the mounts are most likely to be different .Your best bet is to just buy a new motor for about 500-650 dollars form japan.I got my motor done for 1100 bucks that thats installed. just through on some headers and cat exausts new rubber and trust me you will have fun with the car, I know I did.The got lots of bottom end torque.
