First off.. You don't have a 1.8 unless you've done an engine swap with a 1.8l integra engine ( DOHC ).Second off, your automatic transmission is going to hold you back no matter what you do, because (a) automatic transmissions reduce the amount of power you put down to the wheels and (b) honda automatics are tuned for economy so an auto civic is going to be poky even with a little nitrous.. and an auto transmission doesn't handle nitrous very well anyways. Nitrous should be used at high rpms and at full throttle.. if you can predict when an automatic is going to shift, this wouldn't be an issue, but it is, and forced induction ( nitrous, turbo ) can jack up an automatic transmission.So before you do any mods, i would find yourself a used manual transmission and proceed with a swap. It could be cheaper than nitrous, give you a noticeable overall power gain, and would be far more safer.( FYI i just sold my chevy cavalier 2.2l w/auto and my civic 99 EX 1.6 w/manual is slower by a hair.. i have driven an auto civic '98 before and it was a *dog*... whereas my manual is actually fun to drive but it took some learnin' )As far as nitrous goes on a civic.. a lot of people don't reccomend it. Regardless of how you do it ( wet or dry ), if you go over a 25hp shot of nitro, you are just asking to blow up your motor. If you want to get serious about nitrous, you'd be looking at replacing engine parts, and that's a lot of money/time/skill. Isn't really worth it.If you have some money lying around i would swap your engine and get an integra motor. That would be the best way to go about things. Or turbo, but not on an automatic.If you aren't mr. moneybags, your next logical upgrades would be exhaust and headers. with those, you may gain 10-15hp in the upper rpm range. You'll lose a little low-end power but the high-end gain is pretty intense. If you're more into racing and less into regular driving, this would be a good thing.Also: NGK v-power spark plugs and synthetic oil will free up a horse power or two at best and are a cheap "mod". And keep excess weight out of your car ( giant subwoofers have got to go :P). We have light cars with small engines that produce barely any torque.Anyways dude, good luck. Hope i've been helpful.
