Why is my 2007 Civic Lx getting bad mileage?
 

As advertised im supposed to get 30/40 mpg city/hwy respectively...and i do a lil bit of both city and hwy yet im not even close to what im supposed to get...i was getting 23-25 mpg and i am VERY frustrated with Honda...just purchased it about 4 months ago...i love the car but the mileage is not even close!any ideas why?Not sure what size engine i have...i have the default one i guess? lol im not a car whiz but yea i have the standard one i guess?uhm id say im a pretty safe driver and drive within speed limits maybe the occasional accelerate quickly on hwy but i usually never pass 5k rpm markthe car only has about 2500 miles so far....and i use regular fuel just as they directed me to use...i make the mpg calculations myself...how many gallons i put versus how many miles i drivei do agree all these make a difference in my mpg rating but is it supposed to be this drastic? 23 to 30/40?

If your vehicle is that new you should definitely take it to a dealership or trusted mechanic to check the problem. The computers in cars today can now tell any kind of problem but your best bet is to take the car to a dealership because they will have the tools to analyze and fix it properly.

It might be because the odometer was resently reset and then it only averages your mileage since then and you've been in town.

More details would help. What size engine do you have? Transmission auto/ or manual. any modifications? driving habits also play a large role. do you accelerate quickly and break hard? do you drive the speed limit? how many miles do you have on you car? what octane rating and brand of fuel do you use?

I've driven Hondas of all kinds for years and years. I always got the advertised mileage, if not better.You probably need a tune up, and check the pressure in your tires. Both things can dramatically impact gas mileage. Your driving habits also matter. For optimum mileage, you have to drive 50-55 mph on the highway, and avoid hard starts and stops. I don't know if you bought your car from a Honda dealer, but even if you didn't, I'd recommend taking it for the tune up to a dealer. It might cost a little more, but they're specifically trained to service your car. If later on, you want to take the car to cheaper, non-honda dealers, that might be ok. But for this problem, I recommend a dealer. Good luck - I hope you can find the problem. Hondas are great cars.
