ZC vs stock 91 si engine

Hey does anyone know the ups and downs of having a DOHC ZC engine intalled in my 1991 honda civic si?

BrowNKiD 11-15-2006 10:12 AM

zc motors suck... dont waste ur time... if your goin to get a zc ur better off getting a single cam vtec... y do zc's suck?... because they were never produced in north american it is hard to find parts for them... single cam's are dime a dozen... hence the parts are cheap and easy to find...

a 91 Civic Bubble Si Will haul ass with a B18C1 . I think it's the c1 .

The one that was 195 hp stock.

Toss the back seat and ditch a lot of other weight you don't need and blamo.

it'll be pretty quick.

That or maybe an H22. To get better input you might want to post a budget.

this is more after the fact than anything, I am selling a civic, the car had the engine changed before i got it

ZC's are very similar to 86-89 integra motors. not too sure how easy it is to find parts but i think most of them can come from it's teg counter part. if you're looking for a little more kick but nothing too much. just get yourself a D-Series SOHC for the sake of saving you future headaches. you could build one pretty cheap since alot of ppl are switching to B series and K series. i say go with a mini me swap

the single zc is a nice engine compared to the stock si engine, but if your look at spendin the same amount of money, pick up a d15b, a lil wiring is required, but it's a decent swap

Parts for these engines can come from 86-89 integra motors like IntegraMark was saying however not everything is the same but many of the parts are. I beleive there is usdm parts like posted around on the internet somewhere that tells you which parts are compatible. You will need to hammer in the frame a little bit aswell for the pulley and its going to be headaches when it comes to things as simple as tune up iteams. Also i hardly doubt they stock 86-89 integra engine parts so if you ever needed anything ur looking at a wait. A bunch of these small things will bug you to the point where you probably will regret your decision.

The only wiring diffences between your stock engine and the dohc zc is the cam angle sensor is inside the dizzy of your stock engine where as the dohc zc has the sensor running off the exhaust cam. I don;t recommend going for performance with these engines although they are nice compared to any other d-series in stock form.

engines i recommend are:
Sohc zc vtec and nonvtec (i recommend the non v-tec and these engines are almost identical to teh d16a6, your stock engine. It will be plug and play and you can use your stock ecu.

If your looking for performance there are endless amounts of other possible swaps, but that can only be determined by your goals for the car/engine whatever it may be.

im pretty sure your thinking of the B18C5 (integra type R motor) that is the motor that has 195 hp stck....and yes...it definately hauls ass!! but sounds like this guy doesnt have $4000 to throw around so...i would go with a non-vtec singlecam and build the out of it

ZCGold 12-16-2006 09:14 PM

....

i have a zc single cam n i hate it:smilie_d0 dohc is not that bad but i would recommand u get something a little bit stronger u will be more happy in the long run

SuzukiSwiftGTi 12-29-2006 06:42 PM

BOOST!

8psi and youll be running 13's

turbo si 12-29-2006 10:24 PM

boost it

crazyae 12-29-2006 10:57 PM

the motors are junk! its like the unheard of read headed child of the d-series family. If you have a single cam zc good enough because thats equivalent to a d16a6 aka stock si engine besides the higher cam profile. In that case yes boost it or if you don't care about the dohc Zc boost it and blow it up!

B@llistix 01-04-2007 01:25 PM

I would look at what you want to get out of the car... I mean you want to go fast? or just toss'in an engine in to sell the car? Personally, I wouldn;t bother with either of those, B16 swap. Best bang for your buck! I think anyway.

I think most of the parts off the 87 prelude 2.0L Interchange Dont quote me on it though (been a long time since i worked on a zc)
